We read that this cafe was rated by Lonely planet as a top ten in New Zealand Cafe to go to.Coming from Wellington , where we have THE MOST AMAZING cafes and restaurants, we had high expectations on reading this.
Sadly we were very disappointed and wonder when lonely planets reviewers visited this cafe last.
The corn fritters were more like a stodgy little pikelet with a few bits of corn tossed in. The accompanying bacon was so overlooked that it had to be picked up with the fingers to eat -trying to cut it with a knife was impossible.
the vegetarian"feast" was also dissapointing .The roasted vegetables consisted of a pile of diced capsicum, and two skinny slices of tomato, and the homemade hash brown was merely a patty of mashed potato, fried.
Last and least was the $8.50 glass of wine, a Chardonnay that tasted like it was straight out of a cardboard box. When I queried what the wine was, and voiced concerns that it may be corked, the lovely server promptly took the glass away and brought me a fresh glass. She asked that I let her know if there was any further problem with the wine. She returned a while later to check that all was OK with the wine and food.So all in all the young lady server today was the only redeeming feature at L'Arte Cafe today
