“Back to the future”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2013 via mobile

What we have heard people is time travel!!! Back into the 80's. Honestly the food was bland, very poorly presented (carrot and celery sticks went out years ago, not what is like in the photographs!! You will be very disappointed if you think you are getting the chowder from the picture), old and ran down and ordinary service. My husband and I order (which took a while to happen) the four "gastro" tapas, the pork belly came out first and we thought it was one at a time. We finished the pork and then the next three came altogether. It was very disjointed! I honestly have no idea how it is ranked so high on tripadvisor. Don't fall into the same trap as we did! You will be disappointed, as we are!

“Good pub grub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2013

No great pretensions here. Wholesome, well prepared and cooked meals in the pub style. Portions are enormous, even the tapas style iti plates are large. The prawn cocktail starter had at least 15 good sized prawns. The pork belly main was enough to feed a family. No complaints though it was good value and we had an enjoyable evening. Wine list interesting and good value.

“Excellent value, lovely environment”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2013

We were kindly greeted at the door we arrived and had to wait about 15 mins at the bar but that was cool as it was 8pm Sat night and we hadn't booked.

I ordered the lamb shank and my fiancé had the salmon. Lovely presentation, very fresh and tasty and well priced. Excellent variety of meals.

Felt like a little English pub in a quaint little village in the UK. A must if you feel like hearty food in Taupo!

“Good Old Fashioned Kiwi Food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2013

We stopped here after reading reviews on Trip Advisor. Good service, friendly staff, very chatty waitress. Food serving was generous in its size but old fashioned in it's presentation. My steak was enormous but was slightly to cold for the massive round of garlic butter on top so it didn't melt which wasn't overly tasty. The kind of place my Dad would love :)
