“Great menu!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2012

We stopped in one weekend after seeing the advertisement in the local paper. the menu is great, packed full of all sorts and they do these "iti plates" where you can choose a few smaller, cheaper dishes to share amongst each other. Perfect! I couldn't speak highly enough of the friendly service, quirky British-old-pub-style and the food. All our meals were exactly as described, tasty and generously portioned. We'll definitely go back; I would recommend getting the iti plate- salmon pate it was delicious, the prawns- these were really tasty & the lamb bites- top marks to the chef!

“Convenient Location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2012

We were staying one night in Taupo wanted some good food and this restaurant was recommended.
Menu Good, however simple medium rare steaks were overcooked and Creme Brulee disappointing.
Unimpressed unfortunately.

“Dated Interior and Lackluster Food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2012

We looked all over town for a place to cook the trout we had caught during the day. On a Saturday night, the Crooked Door was the only place we found. Nice prep of the fish (charged $25 per person for the 2 of us, plus sides). If not for the fish we would never have come here. Overall I was not very impressed. The side dishes were lackluster and the whole place is dated and old fashioned. Would not return.

“An unexpected pleasure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

This was the last night of our holiday, the weather was cold & miserable & we are a bit jaded from eating out.
Then we come to The Crooked Door with its Swiss chalet style charm & good food. There are "iti" dishes for the nibblers. These are like tapas. The portions are generous & very tasty & the service good considering the staff to patron ratio.
We would dine here again

“I go back again and again”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2012

Every time we visit Taupo we have to go to the crooked door. I just love their food. The waitress could not do enough we could have our meal any way we liked very accomodating. The meal was beautifully cooked and dessert was very enjoyable.
