“Even better than my own home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2012 via mobile

Richard and Lyn were great hosts, made me feel like I was staying at a relative's house. The room was awesome though the water pressure could be a tad stronger. It was a pity I only had a short one night stopover, enjoyed chatting with them over breakfast in the kitchen and running around the backyard with their lovely dog but I will definitely be back!

Richlyn would be one of the best B&B's in NZ due to its lush comfort, excellent bedrooms,
bathroom and spaciousness.
The gardens were exquisit and the decor inside was stunning.
Hosts Lynn and Richard were most accommodating and gave us valuable tips on the surrounding region as well as providing a delicious breakfast.

Room Tip: Bedrooms were quiet and beds were most comfortable.

Exquisite, luxury accommodations...lusciously decorated. Everything felt fresh and new. Bountiful, delicious breakfast served it the state of the art kitchen. Gorgeous garden and outdoor sitting areas which, unfortunately, poor weather prevented us from enjoying. Best for guests who enjoy friendly, chatty hosts.

I first stayed with my travelling companion in Dec 2007 for two nights - we were on a months tour of New Zealand and had worked our way down from Auckland. During our trip we stayed in various types of accommodation from hotels, to homestays to youth hostels and even a tent in a national park. At the time they had two lovely poodles and the house and gardens were amazing.

Feb 2011 - Now married and returning to New Zealand to visit my parents - I organised our trip around the opportunity to stay at Richlyn again so my husband could meet the lovely couple I kept talking about as soon as we decided to make the trip. So we returned for two nights - with my parents who have travelled widely and couldn't believe the standard of accommodation and service - they are not easy to please.

Rosco was just adorable and we have some cracking pics which I will post when I get round to it - he adds to the experience and makes it feel all the more homely.

Not sure when we will return to NZ - we had a baby in October (I was pregnant during our last visit, not that we knew!), but if and when we do we won't hesitate in booking in here again. :-)

We had a lovely nights accommodation at the Richlyn Homestay. The room was perfect and we had a beautiful breakfast that accommodated our dietary restrictions. We would recommend this to anyone.

We (3 adults) stayed here for 5 nights in December 2011. From the very moment we arrived, as Lyn, Richard and Roscoe came out to greet us, I knew I had made a perfect choice. Richard and Lyn are genuinely warm people. By the time we left, we felt as though we were leaving friends behind. Their home is true luxury and the breakfast meets all dietary needs and requests. We were still recovering from long haul travel so every morning we had a leisurely breakfast, we were never made to feel rushed. Most days we left the homestay late morning and sometimes didnt return until very late (as we visited Rotorua from Taupo). Richard stayed up to lock up behind us and never hinted at our being an inconvenience at such a late hour. The only problem is that Richlyn sets the bar high - we ended up upgrading at our next accommodation (see Blue Pacific, Bay of Islands). Would suggest you look no further than this perfect retreat!

Our two night stay with RIchard and Lyn was the last in a string of four B&Bs in NZ and boy did we save one of the best for last! Our hosts offered the best hospitality with loads of time chatting about travel - our favourite topic. No attention to detail had been spared, the bedroom had gorgeous linen, nice robes provided and the ensuite bathroom was very modern with all necessary amenities (shower pressure was a little light though). Breakfasts were delightful and hearty, expertly cooked by Richard.

We had plenty of time to enjoy the grounds (with Rosco the dog for a game of fetch) and we used the hot tub on both nights - a highlight of our stay. Nothing could be better than to soak in a spa surrounded by a stunning garden, under the stars.

We would highly recommend Richlyn if you're looking for a luxurious, peaceful stay.
