“Awesome place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

Lovely owners, clean and tidy. Cheap to stay there. So close to the city and Pak n Sav. Great for a group to stay there as the courtyard is a great place to hang out and have a bbq in the sun. Facilities are so clean, and teh kitchen is a great space for socialising

This place is worth every dollar - spacious rooms, very clean throughout, kitchen is light and airy and has everything you will need, great staff and good location. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Taupo.

We enjoyed our one night stay at this friendly, homely hostel. It's a converted motel and therefore I think the rooms are pretty spacious - our double en suite had an extra bed and lots of floorspace. The staff are very friendly, chatty and helpful and the washing machine ($2) and wifi ($4 for 24hrs) are both good value. Location is fine, a block from Ruapehu St and therefore just on the edge of the main part of town. The lake is about 15 mins walk. Free parking. Good value choice in Taupo!

4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2013

I stayed for two nights and had a nice time. Staff were chirpy and ready to offer their help or expertise. I chose the 7-bed dorm room and it wasn't overly crowded, but I did find myself having to use the other communal bathroom most of the time. Beds were comfortable and the rooms and general surrounds very clean.

In terms of location, it's about 5 mins walk from the centre of town, so it's not exactly in the thick of the action, but one positive of this would be less noise during the night coming from the street. However, it's very close a large supermarket (Pack n Save) and some nice cafes and restaurants.

One annoying aspect was that internet costs NZ$5/day, and via an internet card that wasn't very fast, however I found myself outside most the time exploring the town or the nature sights within the region.

Great stay overall.

This place is outstanding. Staff was extremely friendly, the rooms were big, clean and comfortable. The free coffee they offer is also very good.
Wifi comes at a reasonable price, but it would be nicer if it was totally free. That might change in the future..

Most people's idea of a backpackers will be zillions of miles from the upmarket but homely realty of this pace. Exceptionally clean rooms, the twin/double options are fantastic value for money with nice en suites, and the staff have unreserved enthusiasm to make your stay a good one. If they ever have a bad day, they don't show it. Could not recommend more. In fact, all the other backpackers on our trip after this one could not live up to expectations so this place defo raises the bar.

The staff was absolutely great, full of suggestions for things to see and do, all at a good price. The room was very nice with a modern ensuite and even our own fridge. The kitchen is large and has all the items one would need. We will definitely stay here again.
