Hi, stayed here for a couple of nights recently to meet up with a friend from the UK.
this is in a good location in Taupo, close to everything but not right in the middle of all the noise so just right, had a lovely quiet sleep. Right next to a Pak n Save, about 10 min walk to Huka Falls and the spa hot pool and not even 10 mins into town for the pubs/restaurants and other attractions.
We stayed in room 8 which came with a double and a single bed, tv, small fridge and a nice sized bathroom. I have put some photos on as I was very impressed. These size rooms are all on the second floor and have 2 doors, a ranch slider off of the balcony at the back and a normal door facing the front of the building.
I left my car on the road outside and could see it from the bathroom, nice and safe out there all weekend, there was even a car left out there with a mountain bike tied to the back, that would not have stayed there long in Auckland !
Room very clean, all amenities you could need, plenty of electrical points, beds comfy and have electric blankets should you need them and on a clear day from the back balcony you can see the lake.
Communal kitchen was well laid out, stove top has a bit of an awkward system where you have to flick a switch to get the clicker working for the stove top then when lit you have to hold down the gas to make sure it catches whilst turning off the switch for the clicker. No instructions but everyone in the kitchen was very helpful. The toasters also need to be watched too, super efficient at toasting!!!!!
There are plenty of seats for everyone including some comfy seats with magazines and board games etc. Outside the kitchen is a covered area of the balcony and this has a larger table and a small 2 person table. There is a gas bbq outside too.
Downstairs from the kitchen is a communal tv room and the hostel has free to use dvds.
Staff very welcoming and helpful with information on stuff to do, places to get petrol and directions with our onward travel.
below the balcony rooms that we stayed in are rows of 3 man rooms, I didn't stay in one of these so cannot comment but they looked big enough for 3 people without being on top of each other.
All in all a great place to stay for location, cleanliness, helpful staff and just very nice all round. I will be definitely looking to stay here again with other friends, when travelling solo and also with family when they visit next year.
Room 8 is on the end of the balcony so you are right by the stairs up from the ground floor, I didnt...
