“A WALK IN THE ZOO PARK”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2013

This privately owned zoo, is definitely worth the drive in the country. Great place to take the family and grand children. This is not large, however you can get up close to the good variety of animals. The animals include big cats and feeding time is a great time to be there to learn about these special animals. A meerkat or two (if they are not hiding) and a walk in the park with the locals (two legged and 4 legged) who roam around with you makes an interesting visit

“Great variety of animals”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

Its a nice drive out to Pouakai zoo through the countryside. The animals are fairly well presented. The feeding of the big cats (Lions and White Tigers) is entertaining but the commentary about the White Tigers is really condemning of their breeding and should not be included

“Up close to the animals”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013

We visited Pouakai Zoo, a privately-run zoo, as the free zoo in town wasn't open. I liked that you could get much closer to the animals than you can at a larger zoo, but the enclosures aren't particularly attractive. They have some beautiful white tigers as well as lions, monkeys, emus, sheep, and an ostrich, among other things. The staff are very friendly. It must be quite difficult to run a zoo without big sponsors and big money, so I think they are doing the best they can. Just don't go in with the same expectations you would have for bigger, more well-resourced zoos.

“Hidden wonderland”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2013

We found this gem on the web and was pleasantly surprised. Be sure to go during lion and tiger feeding times - an informative talk is added. Take as long as you like to wonder around, you won't get lost as its not very big, however a great variety of animals.

“Xmas with the grandkids”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013

When you are stuck for ideas to keep your under 6's entertained try Pouakai Zoo - its a bit of a trek but make it a mystery journey as I did and you will be pleasantly surprised that it fits that kind of description - because it wasn't at all as basic as I thought it would be...nice staff, easy access, good facilities...a nice way to capture family memories.
