“So special”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2013

Unfortunately our visit was much too short but we were amazed at the beauty and tranquillity of the villas the views were stunning and the sound of the surf so calming . We were made very welcome by David and it was a pleasure to meet his father , Highly recommended to anyone who seeks peace and comfort of the highest standard . Cannot wait for the next opportunity to return and walk along the beach Many Thanks Jan & Graham Williams

My partner and I were lucky enough to secure x1 night at the Ahu Ahu villa recently.
The location is stunning, and the rooms were private despite being attached to another room.
We headed into the village for dinner, but it's worth noting it's driving distance away not walking (after dark).
We will return for another treat of beautiful sunsets and secluded beaches.

The villas are in a stunning location and are so well appointed that it would be impossible not to relax and enjoy your surroundings.
I claimed the window seat (the windows slide back) and lay there reading and watching the sea with utter contentment. The hosts are amazingly friendly, without being intrusive and everything is kept beautifully clean.
Our 'Blue' villa has the main bed downstairs, with a bathroom, living and kitchen area and upstairs is the mezzanine with 2 single beds. The views are magnificent and the walk to the beach only takes a few minutes.
Oakura has plenty of places to eat and is only a few minutes away by car.
The cellphone signal at the villas is good and they also have free wi fi.
We were also very impressed with the fact that even after we had booked we received an email to say that our stay would actually be cheaper than advertised as they were running a special price that week! Extremely generous of our hosts, as we would never have known.
I'd definitely recommend staying there, especially if you need to recharge your batteries!
Thank you to Nuala and David and of course Bill.

An amazing place to stay, great location, beautiful, well appointed, architecturally stunning, respite from a busy life. Highly recommend for anyone who enjoys life! The views are something to behold. Even though we don 't surf, an amazing surfing beach I am told.

Wow - we arrived late in the evening after a long drive to find the room heated and electric blankets on, with a lovely note on the door bearing our names. There were lot's of 'wow, how cool is this' exclamations as we got further and further inside and saw how unique (in a good way) the villa was. All made out of recycled beams, window etc and put together beautifully. The attention to details to make your stay that much more comfotabel was awesome.. there was fresh coffee for the plunger, proper milk, selection of teas, olive oil, spices, salt & pepper etc etc - it sthe little things that make a big difference.

Upon awaking in the morning, we were blown away by the view out across the lawn straight over the tasman sea. morning coffee in bed, looking out over the ocean - it doesn't get much better... excpet when you're sharing a bottle of red by the firepit in the evening.

The hosts were so wonderfully friendly and helpful. We left at 2pm and weren't charged late checkout as there wasn't anyone coming in after us. We also left behind some belongings, which Nuhla drove into town and couriered to us the next day.

The villas are great for a family, or a couple. Not sure it would be so grea for two couples as the upstairs bedroom is a mezannine but the hosts showed us through the bigger accom option which would be erfect for two couples.. maybe even x3 as theres so much room to put an air mattress or something similar.

Spent the weekend surfing in the area - surfers heaven. Lahar cafe in Okate has amazing food, Butlers Reef just up the road in Oakura was great too and again the barman so friendly - gave us a free hat and wine glass as memorabilia for my partner who used to live down there and go to the same pub years ago.

Can't wait to go back!

A great spot off the beaten path. Just a bit further down the coast from Oakura, it's an easy walk to the beach or a short drive to national park around Mt Taranaki.

The villas are very unique and I loved all the old, recycled materials used. The glass bottle windows were very cool and the queen bed was very comfortable. Enjoyed sitting in the window just reading and watching the ocean.

The local rivers are worth checking out too on some of the short day hikes.

The owners are very friendly and gave me some great tips on things that were good to do this time of year.

We stayed at the Beach Villas in June. The rooms were freezing and the electric heater could barely keep up! The cement floor doesn't help with the poor insulation. Overall the villas are just OK, nothing more. The room and kitchen is pretty dated and very small. The establishment is run and services by the owners so they are not always on site and the rooms are not serviced regularly and to a satisfactory level. The location is good, but sadly I would not recommend it as a place to stay.
