“Would have been an excellent if the Motel owner didn't ring me and call me a liar.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2012

We really enjoyed our 2 night stay. On the first night we went to our room and turned on the TV and it wasn't working, but being the 2nd TV i thought it best to wait till the next day to ask for it to be fixed. We i told the lady of this, she was hessitant and acted like we didn't know how to work it, but said she would have a look at it anyway. We returned to our room and the TV was still not working, so we assumed that they had not looked at this. We mucked arounded with the wires etc and about half hour later it was working. We reviewed the Motel on the piece of paper they give you, we gave it an 8 and said it would have been a 10 but for the fact that our TV did not work. About a half hour after leaving the motel she rings me saying that she was un-happy with our comment as her husband had fixed the problem. I explained to her that it was not working and that eventually we did get it to work, but were un-aware that he had fixed it. I also explained to her that i did not want to keep complaining and being a nusance so i just left it. She started getting very up-set during her time and saying that we hadn't fixed it it had been her husband, in the end of this long drawn out pointless conversation i told her that we had really enjoyed our stay and i was going to post there website on my Facebook page and brag about it to our friends, but now i was not.
I would have loved to have returned to this place, and really i gave them a fairly good review, i did not think that this warrented a phone call and actually i do not recall saying on the review form that i wished to be contacted. This lady needs her head read and needs to learn how to take critisium. If it were not for her i would love to return for bi-monthly stay. Thats a lot grumpy lady!

Thanks for your review on Trip Advisor, it is always good to know how our interactions are working with our customers. I was away the weekend you stayed and apologise if you felt your stay was not satisfactory. We have had some trouble with our new televisions as it is a bit confusing for both staff and customers to get them working. We have since put little signs up to ensure the tv's are more operator friendly.

You are always greeted with a friendly smile and nothing is ever a bother. The units are very clean and tidy and although the road noise can sometimes be a pain, this is compensated by being able to walk everywhere. Resturants are within walking distance if you want to dine out or you have the supermarkets just up the road. Nowhere better to stay if you are visiting New Plymouth for the first time.

A nice spot right in town. Walking distance to main street, restaurants & shops. Room was well appointed and had a spa bath. Staff are helpful and breakfasts great.

Room faced onto main road so a bit of road noise and pedestrians yahooing on their way home in the early hours so you need to make sure the windows are closed.

Would definately stay here again.

Drove up from Palmerston North during the week in the early part of February and tried a couple of motels that were recommended in trip advisor but all were booked out and could not provide a reason as to why they should be so busy. Finally booked into the Brougham Heights Motel which is situated in the middle of the main road leading North and the one leading South. Again, we had to take the last room available which was a two-bedroom suite even though there are only two of us. We thought we were lucky in that at least this had air-conditioning but then realised it was only for the lounge and kitchen area and there were no air-conditioners in either of the two bedrooms. We were in unit 12 and had to keep the curtains closed because the daytime sun really heated up the rooms and with the lack of air-conditioning, would have made them extremely hot at night. we then ran the air-conditioners all day to try and get the bedroom cool. The noise during the day from the traffic was quite loud but as we are out most of the day it did not seem to matter and it did drop down a lot at night but we kept the windows shut and the curtains drawn.
It was a surprise to have to pay for Internet access bearing in mind the cost of the room. Cleaning staff were good as were the management. Would probably stay somewhere away from the main traffic areas in future. Other alternatives seem to be things like the Quest Apartments and the Bellavista Motel, which like this Motel, still offer easy access to the central business area with shopping and restaurants everywhere.

Room Tip: not really sure how you can pick a room that gets you away from the traffic noise

I have stayed here a number of times for work trips to New Plymouth.

The rooms are well laid out, clean, comfortable with good facilities. There is Sky TV.

There are good breakfast options available (cooked, continental, porridge etc.) although they are a little on the high side in terms of price.

Located a couple of blocks from the waterfront, and down the road from a number of supermarkets, and takeaways as well as a few nice restaurants nearby.

Overall good "business" accommodation, although I am not sure I would recommend it for a romantic weekend away of a tourist's trip to Taranaki.

I stayed in June and in September during the RWC period.

We had not been to New Plymouth for quite some time and were recommended to stay at Brougham Heights. Good choice and a special thanks to Deborah and Mo for their first rate hospitality. The rooms were very well presented and the staff should be congratulated on their presentation.....well done ladies.
The one draw back was the Taranaki weather and now we can see why they have great cows and plenty of milk in this region. We did not see the mountain for the whole 6 days that we were there so some of the ancient myths about the mountain may seem true.

Brougham Heights is very well located close by the shopping centre and the great walks along the water front are recommended. We will return.

This is quite a nice motel.
We stayed in a 1 bedroom apartment which was reasonably spacious. It had a nice tv and dvd player downstairs but the tv upstairs was old and tiny.
The water pressure in the shower was terrible (and that's coming from someone who has put up with water restrictions etc in Sydney)
Power in the room is controlled by the usual key in the slot. Normally that is fine because it turns off major appliance like tv, air conditioning etc. But this one turns off everything including the bedside clock!!!
My other gripe is charging for internet usage by the hour. This nearly made me choose somewhere else to stay.
I will say the main reason we stayed here was it's proximity to two excellent restaurants across the street. (Andre's and Table)

Thank you for reviewing Brougham Heights. Your comments are always welcome as sometimes we are not aware of things that guests notice. We were not aware there was a problem with the water pressure as this is the first comment we have received about this. I will get this looked into.
We realise the upstairs TV is only a 14" and this will be changed over the next few months, we need to upgrade our ariel to allow us to upgrade the size of the TV's.
Sorry about the alarm clock, the power saving keytags were installed long after the property was built so we were limited as to what we could control with them, however your comment is valid and we will look into a solution.
