Our motel gave us a voucher for Capers and recommended we use it. We are both very glad we did so. The deal was 2 mains and 2 glasses of house wine for $40, about €25, and nothing more to pay.
My wife opted for venison. I tried a piece and had to agree with her assessment: delicious. Trish, our waitress, is one of those rare people who will go out of their way to make a meal enjoyable. She was so patient and helpful to 2 confused Europeans. She persuaded me to have the T-Bone steak which I devoured. The house wines were above average in my opinion and they tend to be decent in NZ. After sharing a sinful dessert our bill was still under $50.
As usual we ate early so the place was quiet making it difficult to assess atmosphere but the ambience is large cafe-bar rather than restaurant. If you visit Rotorua find one of those vouchers and give Capers a try.
