“Even the driveway is beautiful ”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 weeks ago

From the moment you arrive Hamurana Lodge is both peaceful and beautiful. The host is amazing, he changed our room just based on visual preference as soon as we arrived which he did not have to do, his manner was so friendly and attentive. I wish we had more time at this lodge, the only down side was perhaps that the breakfast options were limited (mainly breads and cereals).
The rooms were well laid out with great views and the lodge was full of character. Also, as this is a 15min drive from town, there is no smell from the geysers!

Kia Ora Jane, thank you very much for getting in touch. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay here at Hamurana Lodge. We understand the importance of a good rest after a long day driving and touring, and I'm happy to hear that you liked room #7. We've also taken on board your suggestions on breakfast, thank you! We look forward to hosting you again in the near future so you can spend some more time exploring beautiful Rotorua as 1 night is definitely not enough.
Kind regards from the team.

We thought we would treat ourselves with a bit of fancy for one night. We are in our twenties, and easily the youngest there at the time, though as long as you don't mind relaxing with rich american retired types you will be ok.

Being from NZ I'm familiar with the area, easy drive to Rotorua & close to the lake. Set on a quite farm/lifestyle block so the grounds where nice for walking around (if you've not experienced NZ country life its a nice taste). Nice lounge & shared spaces, log fire at night keeping us warm as we lounged and read books at night etc. we had breakfast but not dinner, breakfast & general service was excellent, though for the price it should!

It might be just that I am used to doing cheap and dirty hotels, though the staff were almost border line overkill service & trying to book my day for me =) perhaps they are just used to older tourist I would think. In any which case highly recommended!

Room Tip: Smallest room was fine for a couple

Kia Ora Jeffrey, thank you very much for getting in touch. It's our pleasure to hear that you enjoyed your short one-night stay with us. The couches by the fireplace is in deed the perfect spot on a cold winter evening. Our guests are from all over the world, some are very experienced travellers and some are newly wedded honeymooners. With a different mix of guests every day no two days are the same at Hamurana Lodge. I can assure you that every time you stay at Hamurana Lodge you will find a different and unique experience for you remember and cherish. We look forward to your next stay. Warm regards from the team.

My wife and I stayed here for one night on our honeymoon. I really can't say enough good things about the place. The setting was lovely, the staff from the moment we stepped out of our camper van in our grimy camping gear were so helpful and friendly and the room was wonderful.

It's a little out of town but it's an easy taxi ride in.

The only regret I have is that we didn't have the "platter" for dinner in the evening. We instead went into town by taxi. When we arrived back to the hotel, we were greeted by a bottle of sparkling wine and rose petals decorating the bed. We hadn't asked for this but I assume as we'd noted we were on our honeymoon the hotel gave us a little treat.

The only suggestion I would have is that the hotel should probably "sell" the platter a little better as they didn't make it to sound as wonderful as the reviews I have now read!

Thank you Hamurana Lodge, we absolutely loved our stay with you for one night and if in NZ again will definitely be back!

As my wife just told me - if we could we'd be giving this place 6 stars!

Kia Ora Firoze, thank you very much for your "6-star" review :) we are very happy to hear that you had an unforgettable experience here at Hamurana Lodge. Our guests are our family and friends from all over the world. Rotorua has a lot of walking/tramping tracks too, 1 night is definitely not enough! We hope to have the opportunity to host you on your anniversary trip if you decide to come back to NZ. Warm regards from the team!

We loved this lodge, a short drive from the hubbub of central Rotorua. Set back off the road in a wooded area, the lodge is beautifully appointed with comfortable furnishings. And the staff was wonderful - very helpful, attentive, and kind. Do not miss the appetizer platter. We ordered it the first night and were blown away by how delicious it was, and it was presented so elegantly with ferns and flowers embellishing it, perfect with a nice crisp NZ white wine. A bit expensive, perhaps, but we didn't care. We had the leftovers as appetizers the following afternoon. Thank you Ann and Patrick for making our stay so special.

Room Tip: We had the corner suite; I believe it was number 15. Wonderful views and very quiet and serene.

The staff here go above and beyond the call of duty in making you feel welcome to this homely lodge. Set about 15 minutes drive from downtown Rotorua in large grounds, the former farmers mansion is quiet and spacious, and our room ( No 7) was comfortable and peaceful. Breakfasts were good, no cooked option but plenty of cereals , cold meats fruit and bread. Fresh croissants. We had the evening platter once, which was large and good value. The main issue is the distance one has to drive to get a meal, as there is literally nothing except takeaways before Rotorua. Burgerfuel in the nearest parade of shops/ restaurants en route to Rotorua does a pretty acceptable burger, and Yamato in Rotorua is a surprisingly good Japanese restaurant . Overall we enjoyed our stay , however we would suggest increasing the evening meal options , although recognise this probably means an unacceptably substantial increase in staff costs. Thanks to Patrick and all the staff for their excellent care of us.

Kia Ora David, thank you for getting in touch and we are glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay here at Hamurana Lodge. We have received many compliments on our Gourmet Platter, we appreciate all the suggestions from our guests which helped us improve during the past years. I'm glad to see that you found Yamato, it's a family style restaurant with very minimum decorations but they use very fresh ingredients and make authentic Japanese food. We hope you had a great time in Rotorua and New Zealand and look forward to hosting you again in the near future. Warm regards.

Stayed one night on our NZ tour and highly recommend the Lodge. It is a bit out of town but taxis know where it is so no problem going out in the evening if you're going to test the excellent NZ wines. Very comfortable and friendly and would stay there again.

The first impression when arriving is really good. Then we met Patrick that was very nice and attentive.
We spent 2 night so peacefull. The only regret is that we could not stay longer.

The room was spacious, nice and clean. The place is a little bit magic, and especially when having breakfast with such a pretty view.

All the staff was very Kind, and Allways resourceful.

Thank Patrick for this great moment for a part of our honeymoon !!
