“Clean, comfortable motel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2012

The one bedroom apartment was clean and comfortable, with the kitchen well equiped. The motel is located in a quiet street a few minutes drive from town (there isn't much within walking distance). The hosts were very friendly and helpful. The room had been updated with new furniture and was spotlessly clean. Because we were travelling with a young toddler who needed a day time sleep we spent quite a lot of time in the room during the day and did find it a bit dark and dingy. This was purely because of the older-style building design, and wouldn't be an issue at all for travellers out and about all day. Overall a reasonably priced option to stay.

Thank you for your review! It was a pleaure to have your family stay with us.
Sorry you found the room a bit dark. We have updated all of our furniture and decor with bright pictures in the rooms to make them nice and homely and comfortable.
All the best and we hope to see you again in the future!

If you are looking for somewhere that can feel a bit less like you're living out of a bag, and a bit more like 'home' then this place is perfect.

We stayed in a one room unit with a private hot tub in the middle of winter and loved every minute of being there. The owners are really friendly, the rooms were clean and comfortable, the kitchen was functional (there is a supermarket in driving distance), and the hot tub was a great way to warm up after a day of site seeing in the cold.

I would recommend having a form of private transport if you were staying here as it is not really within walking distance to the city centre etc BUT having said that perhaps there are bus routes close by that we didn't know about (because we had a rental car).

Definitely worth every cent and I found the price really reasonable.

Thank you for your lovely review!! The spa 's are wonderful and perfect in winter! I am pleased you enjoyed them!!
We have public buses that go to town just a few minutes walk from us. These run every day and are very reliable! Many of our guests with and without cars use them as a good way of getting around town!
Take care and we hope to see you again!

I tend to use the quality of linen and crockery as a barometer for the quality of the establishment, and this motel passed with flying colours. Beautiful WHITE bed linen and white crockery, in fact - the kitchen area surpassed my expectations.

I stayed in the twin room, which features 2 single beds, kitchenette with microwave, mini fridge and tea/coffee making facilities. There was a flat screen LCD TV and about 100MB of wifi thrown in. That's important to me because I always travel with my computer so I can stay in touch. The unit was immaculately clean, and the bathroom was huge as it was a disabled unit. I loved the extra touches, such as the beautiful red bath towels rolled up in a basket in the bathroom, and the ironing board. I was able to take a soak in one of the two private spas at no extra cost - what a treat - I didn't want to get out!

I was travelling alone, on my way to see a terminally ill friend, so was feeling pretty low. The owners were SO nice and made it feel like a home away from home. I would have loved to stay an extra night but was on a tight schedule. If I ever return to Rotorua, this will be where I'll stay, even though it's out of town.

And that's the only disadvantage - the distance from the town. The cab fare back to the bus terminal was a little pricey at $11.90 but the motel owner picked me up when I arrived, so that balanced it out. Rotorua is much smaller than I imagined and there aren't really eateries that will deliver food. The owner did manage to find one that did home deliveries but that restaurant wanted to charge $6 delivery, which is ridiculous considering the tiny size of the place. Most local restaurants in my home city will deliver provided the order is more than $25. Anyway, the owner solved my food problem so I was most grateful.

My only suggestions for improvement are:
* in the food area, I think the breakfast menu would benefit by the addition of gluten-free options (rice cereal, potato pancakes for example) and the inclusion of staples such as yoghurt and fruit - poached, tinned or fresh.

• I found sleeping in a single bed difficult, and would suggest upgrading at least one of those beds to a double or queen as most adults these days sleep in a queen and the room can fit it in. Alternatively convert both to King singles.

Thank you for your wonderful informative review!! It was a pleasure to have you to stay with us and we hope your trip to see your friend went well!
Regarding the menu, we do have yoghurt and fruit included in our continental breakfast. Sorry you did not realise this. We do also have gluten free bread available, this is not mentioned on the menu but I will add this for future guests. Thank you!
You room did have two single beds but these beds are being changed to a super king this week so the room will either have two singles or one king, whichever is appropriate for the person booked into the room.
Thank you for all of your feeedback, it is great to hear what people think and this is how we learn what pople would like so we can keep improving our motel for future guests!
We hope to see you again one day!

Stayed here during winter so we didn't try out the mineral pool. The room was quite large with a nice kitchen area for simple food/beverage making. Friendly hosts ready to make recommendation on where to eat and see. Dvds available for rental. Overall, a good stay when visting Rotorua.

Thank you for your review. I hope you got a chance to have a soak in our spa pools!! They are a beautiful temperature for winter visits! Our thermally heated outdoor swimming pool sits at about 36 degrees in winter so on a nice sunny winters day or clear evening is a lovely way to relax! We hope to see you next time you are in the Rotorua, maybe in summer!!

We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a one bedroom with private hot tub which we made full use of! Wonderful! The units are clean and have been upgraded with flat screen TV's and have good kitchen facilities. There is an outdoor swimming pool that is geothermal heated the same as our hot tub and the water leaves your skin feeling soft as a baby. The non spa units have use of three separate hot tubs so no one misses out. Service is friendly, the units are very clean and the staff are happy to suggest attractions to suit your budget.

Room Tip: Choose a one bedroom with hot tub.

Stayed for two nights in late oct 2012.
Nice, clean and well-furnished rooms. Good location, close to city centre and Maori village Te Puia, yet very quiet, 100 m off main street.
Service was EXCELLENT!
Travelling with a one-year old, friendly management supplied an extra high chair, even though the motels own was in use, and when our little girl got a stomach bug, really late check-out was no trouble at all.
Informative and nice management who went the extra mile (literally!) for their guests made our stay in Rotorua a great visit.
Strongly recommended, we will stay there again when we return to NZ.

Room Tip: Stayed in two-bedroom apt. Nice and roomy. Well-furnished kitchen.

When we arrived, the painters were painting our room. To avoid the paint fumes, the manager offered to upgrade us to a one bedroom with a private hot tub. What a beautiful room. It had a great big skylight that let natural light into the bedroom. The hot tub was heated by geothermal and had it's own spa towels. The kitchen had a full stove and oven for eating in. The bath had a glassed in shower and was immaculate. The living area was bright and airy with one whole wall window glass and sliding door. When you opened the slider, the sheer drape opened automatically along with the door. Many 220 outlets for charging our portable electronics. Laundry is right on site and it even had a hot tub and pool in the shared area. This type of botique motel run by a family on site is our favorite was to travel and our hosts went out of our way to make our stay comfortable, even delivering clothes from the dryer that we started right before the laundry room was closing that night. Our manager even volunteered to go staff the office of another motel in town when the owners needed to be gone quickly to see about some emergency medical care. I believe the manager's name is Pauline and she really makes a difference in people's lives. It's located on a small street out of the way, but close to downtown, but its location is what makes it so quite and calm. Great place to stay.

Room Tip: The one bedroom with the hot tub is a queen bed and a single, but a great room.
