Have just got back from the Wai-o-Tapu.... all I can say is WOW!! This is a must see while you are in Rotorua... or even in the North Island as a whole!
We got there at 10.20am in time to watch the Geyser errupt! I thought this would be a natural thing but somebody adds soap to it in order for it to go off. I thought this was a little disappointing at first but he explain that it could go off at any time so they give nature a helping hand in order for everyone to be able to see it!
After the geyser we had breakfast in the cafe which has a lot of choice and is reasonably priced. We also had a look around the gift shop and boughts some of the mud masks... again reasonably priced!
The park has 3 circular tracks going around it, a red track, from which you can take the orange track which then again connects to the yellow track! We did all three... twice! It was really easy to find your way around so you see everything and I think people of all fitness levels would be able to manage the whole thing! There are a lot of stairs though!
The whole walk was unbelievably fascinating! It felt like we were on another planet or in a fantasy world! The champagne pool and devils bath are both incredible... they do really need to be seen to be believed!
The only down side of the whole day was the awful smell which is worse in some places than others... take a hankerchief with you to cover your nose!
Great day so glad we did it!
