“Perfect qucik getaway with the Family”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

We planned this trip only 1 week before going and loved it - we were impressed with the hotel over all.
Staff were friendly and helpfull.
Hotel Resturant was amazing, we had dinner and breakfast there. My husband commented "if I knew the food was this good I would have starved myself first"
The hotel was kid friendly, the heated pool was hours of entertainment for the kids which meant we were not spending a fourtune to keep them busy.

Room Tip: We had a room in the 800's which has amazing views over looking the Maori Village.

If you want the reliability of a big international hotel chain in a town with lots of motels then this is a good choice. We booked a deluxe room which was on the 4th floor with good views over the town. It was clean and modern, with air conditioning, a good choice of tv channels, a spacious bathroom with a shower over the bath, and a good wifi signal - there was 30 minutes free wifi per device in the lobby, but we could pick this up from our room too, then you have to pay for further access.
The restaurant was large and busy - as you'd expect for a hotel this size.
If you'd prefer to dine out, the hotel is quite a way out from the main eateries so be prepared to drive or get a taxi, although the hotel operates a shuttle service until 9pm.
Overall a good and seemingly reliable choice of place to stay - a little corporate and slow on service at times, and location not great for walking to have a drink or to eat hence 4 not 5 stars.

What a fantastic location, overlooking the geysers, what a spectacular sight for us Aussies to wake too. We had a balcony room and a poolside room and couldn't be more happier. Very comfortable and spacious, staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The buffet breakfast was delicious with a great variety. I want to come back. Thanks to the Holiday Inn for our pleasant experience. Walking distance to Whakarewarewa Maori village is a bonus and worth a look.

Room Tip: Worth getting a room facing Whakarewarewa living Maori village for the geyser experience.

Although 4.5 stars Qaulmark rated this slightly overstates the overall quality of the property from an international perseptive we had a delux room on the top (5th floor) which was large, clean and tidy compliemented by a great veiew of the city and lake. Check in and check out was freindly and efficient, the bed was very comfortable and the room quiet. Aside from the smell of sulpher you'd expect in a thermal area there are a few minor areas for improvement including poor tv reception on one of the main channels, a reading light above the bed that didn't work, incorrect time on the clock and poor water flow in the shower. Given the overall value for money we'll be back, if not just to relax in front of the view.

Room Tip: Book a delux room (only cost us $20 extra) and ask for a lake view on the top floor.

We had room 520 on the fifth floor overlooking the Car Park. Room was spacious, very clean and very comfortable. Staff were extremely helpful and very friendly. Thoroughly enjoyed the buffet breakfast and fantastic buffet dinner. Really nice relaxing at the bar prior to dinner as well. The thermally heated pool was great and perfect temperature. Didn't really notice the sulphur smell until we went outside the hotel. Would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Probably best to have a room on the car park side.

That end of rotorua smells soo bad, closer too town is much more pleasant, the holiday inn is not at fault for this of course. The pool is lovely and warm as they use the water from the hot springs. The buffet breakfast was amazing and staff helped sort out our wifi and tours.

I am pleased you enjoyed your time with us, and enjoyed our lovely hot pools, (our local geothermal stream is used to heat the town supply pool water via our geothermal heat exchange system). Thank you for sharing your experience. We look forward to welcoming you back the next time you come to stay.

We had room 801 on the 2nd floor. Views of the car park from this room. The room was spacious, clean & quiet, with 2 comfy queen beds, small fridge & air con. Plenty of room for luggage. We were greeted by friendly & helpful staff. 30 minutes of free internet was available in the lobby. If you paid for the breakfast buffet at the checkin counter the night before, ($25 per head) you were given 12 hours/150mb of internet to use in your room.
There is a smell in the lobby & on the ground floor heading towards the lifts, not pleasant but not overpowering either. All other areas were free of the smell, including our room, the bar & the restaurant.

The evening we arrived, we chose to dine in the hotel restaurant, Chapmans, where we enjoyed a lovely a la carte meal with pleasant wait staff & excellent food. We had the buffet breakfast which was average & at $25 was quite expensive.

The hotel is located quite a way up the hotel strip, from the centre of Rotorua, but we had a car so it wasn't an issue for us.

We enjoyed our time at the Holiday Inn & would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with views over the thermal area, the carpark isn't so nice to look at.
