“The Root of Everything in Rotorua”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 24, 2014 NEW

Rotorua is a historical city. Almost all of the tourism spots have history as their background.

Rotorua Museum is like the root of everything in the city, so it would be great to visit this spot first before the rest of the places, you'll hqve better understanding of things and places in the city.

“A great museum - quite unexpected”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 24, 2014 NEW

As you drive up to the building, you cannot help but be impressed by the grandeur. A stately old building - possibly could be from a Harry Potter movie, but no matter what it may remind you of, it is as imposing on the inside as it is on the outside.

The museum has a double focus - the former use of the building as a sanatarium and a detailed history of the Maori origins and history in the region. The film regarding the sanatarium was great. The Maori history was also great. It helped me to appreciate my holiday time in NZ.

“Not to be missed”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 19, 2014 NEW

Regardless of the weather, you have to make time to see this attraction. You have to take your time looking around this attraction. Read the history of the the area and the museum its self. The highlight of my visit to the museum was wandering through the Maori exhibition. This is fascinating as it goes through the whole history of how the Maori first made landfall. in New Zealand. It also explains how the tribal wars were fought not so long ago.

“Very Informative and Interesting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2014

There is only one word to describe this building and it's surrounds and that is AMAZING!! Upon entry you are taken back through the history of the building, and all of its various uses. I am am really glad we visited and would highly recommend to anyone visiting Rotorua. The staff were also extremely friendly and helpful.

“MORE THAN A MUSEUM”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2014

Located in former bathhouse which had serviced international visitors in the 19th century, interesting story, architecture, displays. Also reasonable in and outside dining at their café with wide choice!
