“Absolutely fantastic!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2012 via mobile

If you only visit one Maori cultural experience in NZ make it this one. The bus ride in is a must, the food was fantastic, as was the whole experience. We had a great time - definitely worth it.

“Recreated Maori Village”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2012

An evening at this recreated Maori village is an interesting experience, allowing you a glimpse into their culture and traditions. No Maoris actually live at this village: it is used only as a tribal meeting place and as s showcase for visitors.

Most of the ceremonies and demonstrations are held outdoors, in the forest. It can get rather cold in the evening, especially when it rains. Dress accordingly and bring rain gear or an umbrella. For the dances and performances that follow you are in a heated hall, with raised bleachers that afford a good view for all the action on the stage.

After that you move to the dining hall where the buffet-style dinner is served, just a little after 8 pm. The food is good and plentiful, but if you are used to an earlier dinner hour, you might want to have a late-afternoon snack before leaving for this outing.

One of the highlights of the evening was our jovial Maori bus driver, "Dennis the Menace": he kept us entertained, taught us some Maori words, and brought us back to our hotel around 10 pm.

“Great night out!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2012

To be honest my wife wanted to go and I thought it would be cheesy! .......but......I loved it. Driver, Darren, was fun, the Maori were so friendly at the village; it was informative and a good insight into this wonderful culture. I even got a veggie option at the meal! Spend the money and enjoy!

“fantastic experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2012

despite the cold rain we had a window into the past... didn't quite know what to expect when we booked (except for the Hangi). despite the digs about the wallabies & all blacks, we had great hosts & we felt really welcome. thanks
