“Good hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

We have recently returned from a 2 night stay in a double double lake view unit. This is an older style hotel as you can tell from the joinery/doors etc, but the furnishings and bathrooms are very good. I recommend that you pay a little extra for a lake view room, as although the garden courtyard is nice, the lake view rooms were fantastic. The entrance foyer/bar/lounge area was lovely - very spacious and classy. The swimming pool was fantastic and the spa pools divine.
Breakfast was adequate, good selection, although one of the mornings was very busy and the restaurant was quite crowded. Great friendly service from the (American/Canadian?) porter.
Great location as you can walk to town or to the lake.

A special thanks to John Cherry (Duty Manager) for going out of his way to make our stay a wonderful experience. John went to the trouble of upgrading our room when the room we had booked wasn't satisfactory. The hotel was reasonably full so we are really grateful that John went to this extra effort for us.

Room Tip: Club rooms on the 5th floor are worth paying extra for.

We enjoyed our stay. The room was standard hotel, clean & satisfactory. The staff were friendly and dinner in the restaurant was good value. The breakfast buffet was included in the room price, and was a well set out full buffet breakfast. It is only a short walk to the Polynesian pools and our 5 year old daughter enjoyed their family pool & slide very much. The location between the main part of town and the lake is ideal. We had a lakeside room and enjoyed the view. The garden rooms offer even better value for money if you don't want a lake view.

I'm pleased you and the family enjoyed your stay and that you found the room, restaurants and pool good value. We do have a great central location and I hope the family gets to visit again and enjoy more of what we have to offer in the region. Kind Regards

We stayed here for one night on our recent trip to Rotorua., The double bed is a bit too small for two person. Feels more like a super single rather than double.
Anyway, we enjoyed the lake view from our room. The cooked breakfast is fantastic. We are especially thankful to the Manager, John Chetty for helping to organise two complimentary luge rides for us when the hotel runs out of vouchers.

It was good to see you enjoyed the lakeview room and the cooked breakfast. I have noted your comments in regard to the double beds. We do have a variety of configurations in the hotel King, Queen & Twin Double rooms but may look to change this if there is a need. I will pass your thanks on to Mr Chetty for his help. Kind Regards

We spent two nights at this huge hotel and we were made very welcome. Staff very friendly and helpful. The room is a bit tired looking although it and the bathroom were clean. Using a key to unlock the door was amusing as I am pretty sure other hotels we have stayed at recently had swipe cards. Free Wifi for 20 minutes was a bonus but expected these days. The location of the hotel is good and handy to tourist attractions.

I stayed here for two nights for a conference.
The hotel itself is quite old, evidenced by the room doors and keys (my colleague reported that he had another guest unlock his room with their own key and walk in on him!) and the ceilings, but the room fittings and bathroom fittings were modern and clean. I did find the shower head (shower over bath arrangement) annoying; the jets were sparsely arranged and headed in all directions and it was hard to get under enough water at once to wash my hair! Also the room was a little noisy at night despite having the aircon/heating turned off; it sounded like a shower running in a adjoining room, but it was not loud enough to really disrupt my sleep.
The bed was comfortable and the room facilities good although not overly spacious, with two double beds, a small desk, TV cabinet, suitcase shelf, and minibar. No complaints about cleanliness.
Breakfast provided a good selection of continental and cooked options; I'm not sure what the cost was so can't comment on value.
Staff were always friendly and helpful and the service was fantastic.
Overall great service and reasonable facilities, I would be happy to stay here again.
