“Wonderful Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2014 via mobile

From the moment we arrived Liz and David made us very welcome: a real home from home. The house was comfortable, clean and had lovely view over the lake. The breakfast was the best ever with everything homemade and delicious! We would highly recommend anyone coming to Rotorua to book in here but don't leave it too late or you may miss out!!

It was a pleasure staying with Liz and Dave. The room was great. The breakfast was delicious and healthy. If you are a fisherman, Dave is an encyclopedia of local information. He also had ideas for day trips around the Rotorura area.

We stayed at the Rising Trout for two nights in late December staying in the Brown Trout room. The room was very lovely, clean and comfortable. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome by David and Liz in their absolutely beautiful home, perfect setting. We were overjoyed by their personable hospitality with all facets of our stay- from a beverage and chat upon arrival, information sharing of the area, confirming reservations, to loaning an umbrella. As this was our first time staying at a B&B, we weren't sure what to expect in general, but our stay at the Rising Trout exceeded our expectations and has set the bar very high for future B&B accommodation! Will recommend to anyone we know headed to Rotorua, and hope to return in the future.

Stay here, you won't regret it! David and Liz are a wonderful team and will quickly make you feel like a part of their family. The house is very tastefully decorated, very clean and I had a wonderful sleep. A happy hour drink is served each day, which is a nice treat. Breakfast is amazing, Liz will just whip you up something hot or there are lots of fruits, cereals, juices, preserves and toast. The flat white is terrific! They will make sure your day is planned and you have good directions. They have kayaks for use for free, but we didn't get to use them unfortunately due to the wind. A great bonus however. A wonderful experience. Hope to return one day!

We stayed at this wonderful B&B on our way from Auckland to Queenstown. We arrived in Rotorua around 6pm at night and had no luck in staying anywhere in the town center, as all was booked up. This is when we came across this absolute gem, located on the other side of the lake (only 15 min by car from town center) which luckily still had one of their two rooms available.
Once arrived, we were greeted by Elsie (the dog) and hosts David and Elizabeth who went out of their way to make us feel at home. After a blissful and absolutely silent night, we woke up to the smell of fresh muffins and coffee. We indulged on freshly made bircher muesli, yoghurt, fruit and an array of juices and jams, before we took out the kayaks for a paddle around the lake. In terms of accommodation, this was the absolute highlight of our trip and will recommend to stay here to anybody visiting Rotorua.

Room Tip: Both rooms are absolutely gorgeous and perfect for a couple.

The Rising Trout provides a perfect combination of privacy, peace, and perfection. Upon arrival you will be greeted by the old Scotty dog and gorgeous smokey cat (brought memories of home right back!). Your room will be a picture of comfort and tranquility with the kettle ready for the well earn't cuppa after a long drive. With the lake on your door step it's no wonder The Rising Trout has such high recommendations. David and Elizabeth have earn't every positive word as they are quite simply the cherry on top. Wonderful hosts, for a wonderful bed and breakfast on the lake outskirts. We will be back for sure :)

We stayed 2 nights in this B&B in December. After 4 days of rain in the Northland we were fed up and decided to look for the sun and after 6 hours driving in the rain we arrived in this little paradise. The house is fantastic just next to a beautiful lake. The room is lovely and very clean. Breakfast is delicious with everything you can dream of. David and Liz are amazing hosts, we felt like home and leaving that beautiful house was not easy. David arranged a Maori dinner for us and gave us some very precious information about the area. I definitely recommend that place - it was a highlight of our trip :-)

Room Tip: Both rooms are excellent you cannot go wrong.
