“Idyll by the lake”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2013

Liz and David have got a real gem of a place here. Location, location, location with warmth and friendliness included for good measure. Our room was superb, well fitted out with great views over the lake particularly at sunset. The breakfasts are absolutely delicious you couldn't ask for better. David's happy hour every day is a very nice touch. It's a great time to meet other guests and enjoy swopping stories, advice, jokes etc. The Rising Trout was our last B & B before flying home, it certainly brought the holiday to a wonderful conclusion. Liz and David really are exceptional hosts.

We had a great time traveling around new zealand, one of our highlights was absolutely our stay at the rising trout! We were able to take both bedrooms which were both fantastic! Elisabeth and David had great recommendations for dinner and activities, the rooms were very comfortable, the view of the lake was beautiful and the homemade breakfast was spectacular!
It is also nice to stay at the other end of the lake, away from the noise and the smells of downtown rotorua. We will definitely go back if we are in the neighborhood!!

We give the Rising Trout 5 stars, because we can't give it 6 stars.

It was simply the best B&B that we had in New Zealand. Liz and David are superbe hosts that make you really feel at home the moment you step in the house.

The location is also incredible, just in front of the lake, it is hard to believe that such a place exists.

There is absolutely no bad point about this place, honestly, it is perfect!!!!!

We will be back on our next trip to New Zealand.

We stayed 2nights here and we could have stayed forever. What more could you ask for than beautiful views from charming comfortable rooms, terrific breakfasts made from home grown produce, a complimentary glass of wine each evening, lots of warm hospitality and plenty of laughs.

David and Liz treat you like part of the family, and even if Elsie the Scots Terrier isn't quite sure that you are family she treats you with a mix of dignified disinterest and occasional affection. David is a great source of information about the local area and the pleasure we had in our visit to Rotorua was greatly enhanced by his ability to direct us to the best it offers.

David and Liz's hospitality is so open and friendly you'd be happy to stay in a tent with them, but Rising Trout is no tent and when you stay here you are certainly not roughing it.

Guests are treated with so much care and thoughtfulness. When we arrived, we had tea and home made ginger cake, and then were able to use Liz and David's kayaks on Lake Rotorua which was a bonus. The Rainbow Trout room was spotless and comfortable. The morning breakfast featured a lot of homemade treats (homemade granola, poached fruit, scambled eggs) and was the best breakfast we had. This was the accommodation highlight of our trip and we felt like we were staying with family.

I Stayed here for 2 nights and have to add it was one of my best stays during my 18 long day stay in the country.

Must add a special thanks for the care they took and especially the food and hospitality.

Any one going to Rotorua should stay here .

This was probably the best B & B we stayed in during our 3 week tour of both North & South Islands. Considering the very high standard of places we were fortunate enough to find this is praise indeed!

Liz and David are wonderful hosts with a wealth of local knowledge, a great sense of humour and a real warmth of character. We arrived quite late in the day after a long tiring drive and were immediately helped to relax with a good pot of tea and homemade cakes. Like all the B & Bs we stayed in they were quick to identify good places to eat and things to see and do during our stay. They had great tips about places to see which were just a bit off the commercial route. All these tips turned out well for us.

The B & B is in a fabulous location on the shores of Lake Rotorua. It's possible to walk out of the B & B, across a few metres of tarmac and walk straight into the lake, which is quite shallow but very clean, and enjoy a relaxing swim. The bedroom was a lovely bright, airy room with plenty of space for all the clutter of a longish trip away from home. Liz also provides wonderful breakfasts and seems to cater for all requirements without any fuss.

We only stayed here 2 nights and sincerely wished it could have been longer. A great place to relax.

Many Thanks, Carol & Phil Rickhuss, UK
