“Relaxing Stay in Rotorua”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

My husband and I stayed for one night at this B&B in October 2012. Even before we arrived, Christine was very helpful in setting us up for a hangi at Mitai Village (I had trouble deciding between Mitai or Tamaki, but with Mitai being only 5min away and having won awards for their dancing, it became a no brainer). When we arrived, we were the only guests for the night, so Christine offered for us to move into the larger room, since we had some large luggage with us. Christine is a very lovely host and lovely to talk to. The views from the property are also spectacular and my husband was so relaxed that we actually enjoyed the afternoon sitting on the back patio, sipping tea, enjoying cookies and talking to Christine and her friend. Although the B&B is in Rotorua, it doesn't get the smell of sulfar, at all. The property was beautiful and very well kept up, both inside and out and the breakfast was delicious. I would definitely go back and recommend this B&B.

We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful B & B. The view from the property is breathtaking and we were made so welcome. Christine the owner was so accommodating nothing was too much trouble for her. The gardens are just beautiful, being a gardener myself I can appreciate the work that has gone into this garden. It is a 10 minute drive into town, it is worth it because the property has the feel of being right out in the country with nothing else around, but you are really close to all amenities with shops just down the road. Breakfast was served when you wanted it and something different every day. We stayed for four days, making it our base for the area. If you are looking for something different and not your usual motel, this is it.

Room Tip: The Parisien Rooms is lovely.

We enjoyed 4 nights this stunning B&B in the very comfortable quail room. This quiet place with gorgeous grounds is owned by Christine,a very helpful hostess,a good cook but also a great gardener.During our stay we felt like at home.Highly recommended!

Room Tip: if you can afford it,book the large quail room!

We really enjoyed our stay. The gardens are beautiful and our baby enjoyed feeding the donkeys. The host and her friend were also fabulous with baby. Very welcoming place and lots of common space. Nice breakfast too.

Doolans's Country Retreat is a great place to stay in Rotorua area.
I stayed for 3 weeks and it was a perfect spot to be to explore Rotorua.
The rooms are very clean and comfortable and the garden is absolutely lovely. The host is very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Christine was a gracious and charming host who made all the effort to make me feel welcome. During the morning, wI had a delicious breakfast together with the other stayers that were there and along with Christine, had the most enjoyable conversations. Her four donkeys are so entertaining and cute would welcome me any time in hope to get an extra treat.

If you have a car, Doolan's is THE place to stay. Its stunning views of snow covered mountains and formal gardens surrounding the house are just part of the "Doolan experience." Christine greeted us at the door and offered us freshly baked cookies and tea upon our arrival. Both she and her home are lovely-- and her breakfasts are divine and exquisitely set. She guided us through a surprisingly long list of attractions in the area, pointing out the ones that were "authentic representations" and the ones which were 'touristy." She's such a delight that you can't wait to return each afternoon and share your experiences. Don't pass up this charming, attentive hostess and her breathtakingly beautiful, 10 acre environment.
