Description: On the lake side of the community Soundshell building. We were there on Sunday, when the markets were on, so not sure how often it's open other than Sundays. It's like a bistro where you take a tray and select the slices, sandwiches etc from the slide-glass cabinets - like a Country Women's kitchen. Then you order your drinks - my BOWL of latte was fantastic. We sat at tables just inside the glass looking out, across Lake Rotorua but the tables outside were popular too. Very reasonable, great food...all the locals seemed to be there!

“disgusting food experience”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2014

Expensive and terrible food.. of the 9 items at the table of 5 i was at, only the neenish tart was edible, the chips were reheated probably several times, the fish was a piece of preformed frozen that had soaked up the oil in cooking, wedges were recooked a few times as the potato had gone from the middle of them, The coffees were alright. For this sumptuous repast you pay handsomely, be warned and take your appetite to one of the able businesses across the road

“Very Disappointing”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2014

Met family at the Lakeside Cafe.....location awesome, views terrific, but a lot to be desired for the Cafe. Prices well over top, might be a tourist city, but come on be realistic with your prices. A bowl of Kumara Chips $9.00, what on earth is that about. My neice ordered a bowl of chips for $7.00, unedible and as far as we were concerned reheated at least 3 times, shocking. My brother in law left his bowl of chips, again unedible. Savouries okay, but nothing out of the ordinary. In total a very disappointing experience for us all. Will not go back, would rather buy from a bakery and sit on the grassed area

“Good NZ food!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2014

There was a lot of good food here...but very expensive!
If you need to buy food and sit by the lake, then this is a good place, but if you are on a budget, then I suggest you go into town and buy food from a bakery or supermarket.

“Busy and friendly”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2014

On the Saturday we visited they were very busy with locals and visitors alike enjoying a sunny lunch time. The service was friendly and efficient the coffee and food good. This is a great place to watch the events on the lake and foreshore. A busy and pleasant holiday spot.

“Best location but average food and very expensive”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2013 via mobile

We had our breakfast and it's the best locations over looking the Rotoura lake . But service was very slow and food quantity was good but taste was average. The hot cooked breakfast were above 15 dollars and didn't meet its price demand.
Overall average food and service , but you can't beat the location.
