“Great Hospitality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2010

The GPS led us straight to the house in a quiet road close to town. The room is excellent with all the facilities you need and there is a spacious lounge that can be used for reading etc.
Viv made us both very welcome and gave us useful information about restaurants and what to see and was a mine if information about the surrounding area.
Great continental breakfast and full english was available!
Would recommend Redwoods for a short or longer stay in Rotorua

We were only going to stay 2 nights but it turned into 4. This B&B is fabulous the rooms are pristine, and the breakfasts are more than you can eat. Vivien will also take special orders and make whatever you prefer; her blueberry pancakes with homemade syrup are wonderful. After traveling for 5 weeks and getting tired of eating out Vivien and Peter opened up their home to us and prepared a home cooked meal. It was marvelous, the desert was to die for, it was called Pavlova, a must. Vivien was very helpful in what to do in the area and most importantly want not to do. We really appreciated her tips on where to eat as well. Loved the conversations that we had. Thank you Vivien and Peter it was lovely.

Wonderful hostess. Vivien went out of her way to make sure our Ruby Anniversary went well and we enjoyed our day, even though it was raining. Her local knowledge was invaluable and her recommendation for a theraputic and relaxing massage made our day. Her blueberry pancakes are to die for. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the genuine hospitality.

We thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay at The Redwoods! Vivien was a spectactular host and advised us on what to see (and what NOT to see)! This saved us a great deal of time as we had planned to do several things we ended up skipping. She gave us a coupon for Waitopu Thermal Wonderland and booked our reservation for us at Mitai Maori Village. The breakfast was simple but perfect and we enjoyed chatting with her while we ate and filling her in on U.S. politics!! We had some trouble getting the wireless internet password to work and her husband, Peter, was very helpful resolving it. There is a communal living and dining area with sofas and an honesty bar. We did not partake in this but there is beer and wine available for you to help yourself to. The bedroom is cozy with a heated mattress pad on the bed and towel warmer, both of which were nice in the cold weather! I have to say, though, that the best thing about our stay was Vivien's hospitality! When we left Rotorua, we left our camera battery and charger plugged into the wall. By the time we got to Auckland and went to email her, she had already contacted us to find out where to send it. She found a two-day courier service that was able to get the package to us before we left to fly back to the U.S.! You would NEVER get that kind of service from a hotel chain! Thanks again, Vivien!

We stayed at this B&B for three days and were glad that we had chosen to do so. The room was very up to date, and clean and comfortable. There is a communal living room and free internet and Vivien is a wonderful host. (I had been on a hike the day before and had fallen in the mud and she took a load of alundy and washed it for us) She made reservations and suggested places to eat and see, and generally was very available and helpful.

we are travelling through New Zeland by campervan and we were a bit tired of sleeping on our not so comfortable bed every night, so we decided to do a one night at a b&b. ONE NIGHTS BECAME FOUR NIGHTS, so relaxed and lovely it was at Viviens place!
She really did take good care of us; she made us a perfect breakfast every morning with eggs, fresh fruit and all sorts of muesli and at night she cooked us a meal (extra charge). We know that it can be very different in other b&b's so we really appreciated her personal involvement. She even watched after our children one morning when her husband Peter took my husband out for a mountainbike ride in de woods (and I felt a bit sick and wanted to get some more sleep). The children really loved it at her place (she took out a lot of toys for them). Our oldest even went up with Vivian to her kitchen to help her prepare the food (and stayed there to watch television the whole morning ;-)
The rooms are very beautifully refurbished and you feel like you are staying in 5 star hotel...but the service is better though.
We would definitely come back if we had the chance and we do recommend this b&b to every New Zeland traveller. Dont miss it; its an attraction to itself. Oh and go running in the Redwoods in the morning! You will leave this place revived and recharged and with two friends in New Zeland.

This is an excellent basic B&B. It is located about 5 minutes from downtown Rotorua in a quiet residential neighborhood. Our room was spotless, efficient and comfortable. Parking is available off street in the driveway. Vivian our hostess was great - she's got a great warm personality and made us feel right at home. Her breakfasts were healthy and large - we really didn't need lunch. Vivian was a great resource for local information and really takes pride in her B&B - this shows.

If you're going to Rotorua this would be a great place to stay. We would definitely go back.
