We went via the Haruru Falls walking track. Getting to the falls at the end of the track is just the icing on the cake. The 5km walk through the kiwi habitat (no dogs allowed and are gated off) was spectacular, fern rainforests, bush, wetlands and kauri trees are dotted along the path. We went after heavy rain so the path was a bit muddy, so make sure to bring your walking shoes. Getting to the falls at the end was just beautiful. They aren't amazingly big, so don't expect a Niagara falls or anything. They are peaceful, beautiful and the whole experience really made our Bay of Islands trip. Make sure you either organise transport at the end of the track back into Paihia or walk back through the track to Waitangi as the road back into Paihia is NOT geared for pedestrian traffic! That was a big dangerous and would not do that again!
