We stayed in a 2 bedroom premier suite with views out over the bay. The balcony was huge, so we spent a lot of time out there enjoying the views and relaxing. Having read previous reviews, we were expecting road noise and the service station next door, however the noise largely disappeared once the doors/windows were shut so didn't bother us at all. The service station also wasn't a problem (and we were right next door to it), we just looked in the other direction!
We found it to be a very family friendly place to stay, with baby-friendly furniture (our 1yo had cracked his head open earlier in the week on some sharp furniture at another hotel) and a really good beach was literally across the road. It was also very clean, and the host Shirley was very friendly. However, having read previous reviews, I'm wondering where our welcoming fudge was - lol.
The only issues we found were that parking was tight, and the beds were a little hard for our liking, but that's being picky. All in all, a really good stay, and a great base to explore the Bay of Islands.

Room Tip: The rooms at the front are worth the extra price for the huge balcony and view.

I stayed in the sea spray suites for a night in mid December. I booked over the Internet for a very reasonable price. When we arrived we were extremely pleased with the suite. We were on the ground floor with no view, which was what we expected given the price, but the decor and cleanliness and facilities were superb, far surpassing our expectations.
The complimentary fudge was a really nice touch too.
I would whole heartedly recommend the suites to anybody.

We stayed here between Christmas and New Year 2012. Unfortunately we didn't get one of the waterfront apartments, so our view was of the back of the petrol station next door - not very attractive but a nice outside sitting area nonetheless.

The apartment itself was spotless, although the lino floor might do with replacing. It had obviously been cleaned but still looked and felt sticky. Plenty of room for a couple alone, fully functional kitchen including dishwasher (although you need a Ph.D. to operate the multi-functional oven - just phone reception and ask for help). Sky Movies on the TV was a bonus for the odd rainy day. Nice spacious bathroom.

Air conditioning is in the main living area only but if you leave all the windows closed the cool air circulates eventually. We found opening a few windows kept us perfectly cool in the nighttime despite it being in the mid to high 20s all day.

Although it is on the main drag, we didn't find the street noise at all bad. The main thing I could hear was the sound of the waves on the beach.

Room Tip: Try for a waterfront room if you can, however the ground floor waterfront rooms are actually in the...

Splendid apartment, everything was new and tastefully decorated! There is a separate bedroom with a walk-in wardrobe. The modern living room is combined with the well equipped new kitchen area (incl. dishwasher) and you can also eat outside on the small patio. The bathroom was elegant and spotless.

My partner and I stayed here for 5 nights in Dec 2012, we were originally supposed to stay in the motel next door, but decided to go for the Sea Spray Suites instead and we're so glad we did.
When we arrived we were checked in without hassle and were in room 222 which had a courtyard view from the bedroom window and a view of the parking lot at the front, but from the lounge area, this wasn't bad at all!
The kitchen was fully equipped with cooking utensils etc. to make a good meal but there was no can opener!
The lounge was very open and light with plenty of room for just 2 people. The bed was very comfy and we had 5 good sleeps. The air con was excellent and actually worked really well, the room was cool all the time!
There is also a TV on the wall in the bedroom and we noticed another reviewer comment that they couldn't change the TV channels in the bedroom, but this is because you need to operate it with the lounge remote control, so we often went to bed and took the remote in with us.
The bathroom was again very light, spacious and had a good shower with decent power behind it with a shelf to put all your bathing products.
The suites are close to Countdown (for food), the Treaty Grounds and Paihia town centre. We didn't go in the Treaty Grounds as it was too expensive ($25pp), but the Haruru Falls trail is a must (Free), but wear comfortable shoes as it is long. It takes 1 1/2 hrs to complete and you either have to walk back the same way or go back from the other end of the town and walk on the road. They're both tiring and long! We got a lift back from a kind passer-by :0)
The only reason why I didn't give a 5 star was because I did spend a lot of time killing ants in the kitchen which seemed to be coming from a crack in the window, but it's not a major thing.
Overall a brilliant stay and if we ever passed by again, we would stay!

Had 2 nights with my mum at sea spray suites. It was a good experience with clean toilet and bed room. The kitchen was fully equipped and sufficient for both of us to cook a nice meal.

The suites were close to countdown and restaurants- good convenient location.

One negative was that the cool air from the air con in living room wasn't going into the bedroom so making the nights somewhat stuffy..It will be better if there was free Internet too.

However, good experience and would recommend it!

We recently spent a very nice weekend at the Sea Spray Suites in Paihia. The location is just outside the hub-bub of downtown Paihia, but an easy 10 minute walk to the center of town. The modern rooms were clean and tidy, featured a updated kitchenette and tile floors throughout the suite. Some reviewers described a washer/dryer, but our room didn't have one. I assume those were for upgraded rooms.

We were greeted by a little tub of fudge (yum!) from one of the sweet shops downtown, but I was slightly disappointed by the view: the parking lot. I should have checked on TripAdvisor, but I guess I expected something a little nicer than that. The room description said it opened to a balcony, but a better description would be patio. It's an easy walk across the street to the beach, and features a good playground for the kids. One item of note about Paihia: during the summer, Paihia is FILLED with tourists fresh off a cruise ship. When we were there, two cruise ships were in the harbor, while the passengers were ferried into the docks. They basically took over the town, and the quiet vacation town turned into a flurry of activity.
