“Fly to Cape Reinga - it's worth it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2012

They picked us up from our accommodation and drove us to Kerikeri airport.
There we boarded a small plane with seven others.
We flew up the west, to a grass airstrip on private property, to meet an air conditioned van.
We were driven up to th Cape, where we had plenty of time to walk to the lighthouse.
After morning tea at a lovely bay, it was time to hit the sand dunes, before heading back to the plane.
The flight along the east coast was a highlight for me. The scenery is fantastic and the running commentary was very informative.
We were back in Paihia after a great trip and feeling sorry for those on the bus tour

Hi Lynley, thanks again for another great review. Glad you had a great day with us up in Cape Reinga, flying sure does beat that long drive up there doesn't it. Cheers from the Salt Air Team

“Must do tour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2012

I organised this tour for a surprise birthday present - it was fantastic. We only had two full days without travel in the Northland so this tour is a must when short of time. If you can afford the extra cost dont bother sitting on a bus for 6 hours. What you see is second to none. The staff are fantastic. We had time to also jump on a ferry to a trip to Russell in the afternoon.

“Why Should I bother.......?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2012

.,... to write a review? I have just read previous reviews for Salt Air and agree absolutely with everything that has been said - if I missed a bad comment - I don't agree with that!
I had not really considered a helicopter trip out to the islands and we have been to Paihia many times before - in our own boat - albeit years ago, but the trip was recommended by our timeshare resort - Bishop Selwyn, so we made enquiries and do not regret it for a minute. We were so lucky with the weather, a perfect day - we picked a time to depart in the helicopter and Grant gave us a beautiful trip. We were picked up by Sean and along with three other couples taken to an island of our choice for walking, fishing, snorkelling or just relaxing. One couple was quite fussy taking a look at a couple of beaches and rejecting them. Sean persevered. Couples were provided with picnic blankets and in one case a wind protector. Sean left us at Army Bay on Motorua - a perfect spot and we were told we could stay there, or walk to other bays - he'd "find us" somewhere at 4 p.m. We were told if we got fed up there we could ring him and he'd take us to another island. It was all just so personalised. After our picnic we did walk over the hill to another bay but no further because we found our hamper just a bit heavy - Sean later told us he should have thought about offering to pick it up for us from Army Bay... hmmmm, should I mark him down for that???? Anyway it was all perfect, only one other couple on the boat back to Paihia, stopping off at Roberton Island. We did decide to buy the photo taken of us by the helicopter and wandered back the next day to pick it up. We stood watching the helicopter come in and unfortunately saw the death of a seagull who decided to take a closer look himself. It was most comforting to see the measures taken for safety - the blades were stopped and closely examined for damage (and the blood was wiped from the windscreen....). The seagull could not be resuscitated.
Having bought our photograph we decided to also buy the dvd of photos which were excellent and we were pleased to see there was also a promotional video which is well worth having. An excellent trip and one we would highly recommend.

“Lived up to all expectation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2012

Brilliant. The Pilot was an excellent guide, telling us all about the countryside as we flew up 90 Mile Beach, and then about all the islands in the Bay of Islands before coming in to land at KeriKeri. We were so glad to have opted to fly instead of going up by coach .

“A must do”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2012 via mobile

What a fantastic experience , this is by far one of the best personal experience I've had. My husband and I did the heli/island , boat cruise and was money well worth spend. Our tour guide "Sean" was very informative and we had a great time chatting about the area and fishing. We were dropped off on a beautiful Island and lapped up the sun whilst hubby had a dip, too cold for me. Chopper flight was unreal flying over the many islands and "the hole in the Rock.". That's exactly what it is " a hole in a rock". I highly recommend this as its unique and it's a life time experience. thank to Salt Air Tours.
