“Grab one deal worthwhile”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2014

We stayed two night on a grab one deal, the resort is nice with clean spacious rooms, a breakfast was provided as par of the deal which was nice and plentiful. The pool and spa were nice and clean and owners friendly and helpful. A good place to stay but not on the beach and the shower was extremely hard to drive .

sorry, i was supposed to write this in January but better late than never. we stayed here a week before Christmas December 2013.

The Nautilus was not my first choice, but so glad my other accommodation fell through because this was so much more better and close to everything we needed! I had family visiting from England and booked two double bedrooms which were located in front of the pool (our party of travellers were four adults and three teenagers)

The rooms were fabulous, well kept, up to date, spacious and cozy. The resort is right next to countdown which we would go to most nights and also sold alcohol (for the drinkers) ... we used the kitchen a lot and had everything that required, walking distance to paihia township and also to the main road heading to go up north. I think only once i heard a car coming down the 'main road' that the hotel was on .. aside from that nothing else.

thank you to the staff and owners for making our stay a memorable one, will recommend to family and friends and look forward to visiting again.

I would not stay here again when there are so many others to choose from.
The cooking area was more minimal than minimal. It was very basic and the owners/staff were not very friendly. it had wifi but didn't work. Nothing to commend it at all. Look at little further and you'll find many more to stay in with lovely views and I am sure better run!

We are sorry you did not enjoy your stay.
The descriptions of our rooms clearly state what cooking facilities are (or are not) available in each room type so you should not have been surprised about what was in your room. The studios only provide basic facilities - jug, toaster, microwave and small fridge. If you required additional then the guest compendium clearly advises that we have bench top ovens and portable hobs available on request.
We are surprised that the WiFi was not functional as you did not feel it was necessary, or polite, to contact us and advise us at the time - therefore giving us time to either fix the issue or provide you with an alternative log in method.
We do not agree with your comment that the place is not well run or the staff are unhelpful.. If you felt at any time you were not receiving the type of response you expected then you could have asked to speak to one of the owners - we would have been more than willing to assist and put things right

We stayed for 5 nights in late December 13. Location is on the North end of town so just a few minutes in the car to the centre or 100 yds to beach. Large supermarket next door so provisions at hand. Shippeys, the restaurant boat also handy, 150 yds. We had a standard room as only two of us which was a good size with dark curtains comfy bed with good mattress. Larger rooms for families looked spacious.
Although not new all fittings were spotless and room was fresh and tidy. We loved the Kiwi way of having fridge in room and washing machine available at every accommodation. Good sized pool, hot tub and gas barbie, all that was needed for a great stay. Internet was indeed free and a good speed and worked fine. Would recommend this hotel for price and facilities.

Thanks for such a great holiday, you thought of everything. Fluffy robes, cosy blankets for couch, good amenities and the kids loved the pool area and being able to scooter around the tennis courts. The location next to Countdown was super handy too. We'll be back :-)

2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2013

Had to stay there because we travelled at a busy time on the Bay of Islands. I read the reviews and booked a 2bd for $395 hoping it would be as nice as some of the reviews. It is spacious, has clean bed linen. Easy parking right in front, Countdown right next door. Nice clean pool. Towels for the pool available at office. Laundry right next to the office.
Upon walking in, I noticed a strong smell of urine. The type that embeds itself in the grout. Easily fixed with a spray of white vinegar every day. The sides of the cistern were also quite grubby. The area surrounding the base of the bathroom tap, was quite grubby. Thick and black, as was the sink hole.
Bath curtain was soiled all around the base. A quick dip in a bucket of bleach once a week, easily stops that kind of build up.
Musty smell all thru the carpets, again, easily fixed with bicarbonate of soda.
Kitchen utensil drawer soiled too.
Maybe a change of cleaning staff or closer supervision required.

Room Tip: Not on a busy road, so sleep is good in the main bedroom. Not so for the room facing the carpark. Cu...

Thank you for taking the time to make your comments, we do how ever wonder why the areas of concern you mention were not raised during your stay, thereby giving us the opportunity to either rectify the issues or find you alternative accommodation.

We have been able to determine which room you stayed in although your online presence provides no clues to your identity.

We find parts of your review both insulting and inflammatory. All bathrooms and other rooms are stripped and thoroughly cleaned upon check out, including grout cleaning and replacement of shower curtains - they are not soiled around the bottom. We acknowledge that the toilet cisterns are old but the marks are due to age and are not 'grubby'. Our cleaning staff are professional and we do not appreciate your comment that we should change them!

We have double checked all rooms and whilst they are not black out curtains all curtains fall below the level of the windows.

We do not agree with your heading 'expensive and smelly'. You did stay during the peak season and our prices are reflective of all of the facilities we provide and are comparable to similar accommodation in Paihia. If we followed your recommendations our rooms would smell of vinegar, bicarb and bleach rather that the pleasant smelling cleaning products we use daily.

We stayed for 5 nights and loved it. We were upgraded to a ground floor unit with cooking facilities. The room was spotless and bed very comfortable. Lovely outdoor pool and spa area as well. Lovely couple who run the place and we would definitely stay again.
