“Great Place for the family to Stay.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013

Well, we loved it, from the 2 separate rooms to the spa bath and down to the fact there were even decent wine glasses. The Nautilus was clean and tidy and the host more than friendly. The kids thought we were staying in a 5 star hotel!!! We would love to come back again.

It's hard to find a place that is really child friendly, and a place for us all to stay comfortably. We had a wonderful couple of nights and it didn't matter that it rained we still enjoyed the spa and the DVD selection in the office. The grounds are beautifully kept and it is right next door to the supermarket. Paihia and Waitangi are a nice walk and KeriKeri is a short drive. Will definitely come back.

Hi Sasha, thanks so much for your review. We always struggle to think how we can keep our guests entertained, and the children happy on those days when the weather isn't so good....happens sometimes, even in the winterless North! We have found that the large screen TV's and the wide selection of games and DVD's available free of charge from our reception always go's down well.....with the children....and especially the parents. Hope to see you again soon.

We got a great low season deal from GrabOne so value was good. Rae was lovely and helpful, rooms are big and beds very comfortable. They obviously take a lot of care to make it special, we would definitely recommend.

Kids loved movies on the big TV plus the hot tub. Countdown supermarket is next door if you are self catering.

Only negative was the advertised free Wifi which cut out a lot and was accessed through 100Mb cards which means you have to login every time you want to use it. This seems to be quite common in NZ but pretty frustrating. We did get extra cards at no charge when we asked but worth mentioning as a nudge towards a better system.

Room Tip: downstairs so easy nip over the lawn to the hot tub

This is so late! We arrived at the Nautilus Resort via a huge detour in September 2012 and were ushered into a spacious, well-appointed and warm!! room (it was bucketing down outside). There was no outside noise to be heard in our 3 night stay, and we were really well located. Walking distance to the main shops, well-placed for the Treaty House, and on the road out of Paihia to Cape Reinga in the north. Our hosts Rae and Steve were nothing short of wonderful - full of advice for an excellent local restaurant, and where to go that was off the beaten track (including local glow worm caves that even Bill Gates has visited, at a fraction of the price of the more famous caves and a local kauri stand). Oh - and the supermarket next door was a boon. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Ground floor room facing onto the back and accessible to the pool, was wonderful for arthritic limb...

On this return visit with a friend we were welcomed by the owners Rae and Steve as long lost friends.
They provided a friendly environment for my companion to relax and recover.
Can thoroughly recommend this accomodation for anyone. We had the disabled unit and this proved a gret choice for my companion.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

We stayed four nights in a suite of rooms with our own balcony. Although the motel was built a few years ago, we found it well equipped, clean and comfortable. There was a modern large TV in the lounge and a smaller TV in the bedroom. The hosts, Rae and Steve were very helpful. Although we did not use them, there is a large swimming pool and spa . The BBQ was easy to use and conveniently placed. The Wifi connection was good. It is about a 15 minute walk from town but just a couple of minutes by car. If you need groceries, Countdown is just next door. Overall, this is well worth a stay.

Room Tip: Try for upper room with individual balcony

We stayed a few nights. The place was quite smelly. It needed freshening. The pool was immaculate. But if you get a room near the road it's a noisy road. No air con but fans in the room. Nice clean bathrooms. Supermarket right next door.

Thank you for taking the time to submit a review of your stay at our resort and we are sorry that you did not enjoy the experience.

To respond to a couple of your comments and ratings we are firstly disappointed that you saw fit to title your review “Upstairs Terrible”….there are seven rooms upstairs, you have only ever had experience, or seen, one of them.

We are sorry that you thought your upstairs room was smelly, despite the nice clean bathrooms. The room you stayed in before we moved you has been occupied continuously throughout the summer season and never before has anyone mentioned a smell of any kind. When a guest leaves the rooms are thoroughly cleaned, down to replacing all mattress protectors, pillow protectors, shower curtains and linen with freshly washed materials. Kitchens are deep cleaned and all crockery and cutlery are washed and polished.

Given your other comments we feel that your two star rating for cleanliness is grossly unreasonable.

The road noise you mention is an issue around most of Paihia during the summer season, remember it was high season when you stayed and Anniversary Weekend in Auckland and Northland. There were many thousands of tourists visiting the area that weekend so yes there is a certain amount of road noise disruption, remember also that we are not on the main route into town so it could be a lot worse.

We noted also that you gave us a three star rating for service which we find confusing given that not once did we fail to give you what you wanted, and we went to the extra effort and expense of moving you as soon as we could to one of our best two bedroom apartments downstairs, for no extra cost, which was already minimal to reflect your original room booking, yet again, you mark us down on value.

We do appreciate your comments about the swimming pool and bathrooms and are glad you found downstairs more to your liking, but we do believe that some of your rating scores are unfair. That said, perception is in the eye of the guest. As always we will try to address any deficiencies we find immediately.
