We had a very warm welcome from Janet and Jim from the Appledore lodge. They arranged a booking for a tour to the hole in the rock and points us some good restaurants en free parking places in the town of Pahia, all wrote on a map. The room had a spectacular view and a very nice and comfortable bed. The breakfast was very good.

A nice room with the view on the river. So one expect to have a quiet room. But unfortunately the B&B is located close to the road so one a little nuisance of the traffic noise. No WiFi. When we arrived the hosts were very pushy in selling us a boot trip to the hole in the rock. It felt uncomfortable. But on the other hand the boot trip was very good.

Steph and Carl were the perfect hosts for a perfect B&B and surrounding. We spend two days in november 2012 and really enjoyed our stay. The view across the river is just beautiful. The beach of Paihia is just a 5 Minute car ride away. And much thanks to Carl and Steph for all your tipps and hints - especially 'her majesty pleasure'! Appledore is set on the banks of the Waitangi river about 7km from Paihia.
The setting of the house is idillyc but as there are no shops or restaurants within walking distance you have to drive to eat - it took us about ten minutes to drive to Pahia where there are plenty of options. Stephanie and Carl were very helpful giving us suggestions for places to eat as well as trips.
One downside was the breakfast which, having been prepared the previous afternoon / evening, was left in our fridge for the next morning...so some of the items were a little past their best.
Compared to other similar B&B's we felt it was a little overpriced.
