“Good hotel nice rooms.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2013

We stayed here in April, the hotel is quite spread out and can be a bit tricky to find your room but the rooms are nice and the check in was pleasant enough. It's s a little bit back off the main street but still only a couple minutes walk an your in town. Happy with the stay and we even got a free upgrade which was nice.

This complex offers well appointed large rooms with two queen-size beds, a small patio, a shower only bathroom and a coffee-station/mini-bar nook. There is a 24 h charge for wi-fi. The breakfast buffet is very good and our dinner was excellent. The only problem was the service. The evening manager was overwhelmed by the number of guests, which is surprising as we had made a hotel reservation for 11 on a Monday, when most Paihia restaurants were closed. The manager was argumentative and completely ignored our single female member of the party. I must also mention that their pool was freezing, which is surprising giving that average temperatures were in the mid 20 C. Nevertheless, it is far enough from "the action" in the village and the low light pollution allows for amazing views of the stars. You can walk to the beach and to the village in minutes and the front desk was very accomodating. Perfect for a family stop.

Room Tip: We were at the back and more secluded.

Thank you for your review after your recent stay at Scenic Hotel Bay of Islands. I am pleased that the rooms and location were to you liking but we unfortunately seemed to let ourselves down with the restaurant service which is generally reviewed as being very good. I apologise for our shortcomings in this area on this occaision. As for the pool temperature I guess this is a question of personal comfort levels as other guests in house at the same time found the temperature fine.

Room was clean and roomy but dark, lighting not that good and no parking near this unit block, meant having a 50 metre walk from the car was a minus as it rained in the morning,Staff were very good and helpful

Room Tip: Get a lesser room where you can have your car handy for convenience of unload, load and going off.

Thank you for your review after your recent stay at Scenic Hotel Bay of Islands. As you note it is unfortunate that some of our deluxe rooms are a short walk from the car park and doubly unfortunate that you arrived on one of the first rainy days in about 3 months! The weather is about the only thing we can't control. We are working on the lighting in the rooms as I write and are 75% through a project to rectify this problem. Other than that we are pleased you found the staff helpful and obliging. Regards Graeme Horsley General Manager

Really enjoyed the hotel and the staff during our stay over 5 days. Very helpful, would wash our baby's bottles and cups in the morning. Great having a laundry with young kids. Close to the action in Paihia and the pool was excellent given the hot autumn we had. Would have liked a spa but we managed with the excellent shower. Room was more than adequate for our needs. We booked over easter so we did request a family room if one was to become available but they were fully booked and we managed fine. 3G access was't great in our room but we didn't really need it anyway. I would recommend staying here again - breakfast was wonderful every morning and after going to lots of restaurants I can say that this hotel had the consistently cleanest high chairs of any restaurants we have eaten at over the years. Ka pai - ka nui te mihi mahana ki a koutou nga kaimahi o tenei hotera.

What an amazing place to stay. The staff are a true credit to this company. Book in time is usually 2pm but as we had arrived in Paihia early checked to see if we could check in early. They checked to see if our room was ready and the n told us we were welcome to arrive at any time. My boyfriend had to leave due to a family emergency but the staff made me feel special and I didn't really feel like I was by myself. Paulo in the bar kept me entertained and made fantastic cocktails. The food was superb and when ordering room service was quick to arrive and hot. The next morning I had to get to the maritime centre to catch an overnight cruise. It's not that far to walk but with a hand in a splint and a suitcase to handle, not to mention a little bit of drizzle it was a slightly daunting task. When I asked at the front desk if they could call me a taxi, the girl (I think her name was Thia?) said no, but that she would drop me off. Absolutely outstanding service and I really felt they went over and above what a lot of other places would have done. Will be staying there again on my next trip to the Bay of Islands.

We booked this hotel through bokings.com after looking on the internet at quite a few motels/hotels in Pahia... I decided on this one as there was Wifi and a guest laundry...
We had been travelling about for some time and would need to do some laundry....
We arrived about lunch time, as most of the other reviews mention, the welcome was lovely.....
SARA checked us in and could not have been more helpful....
Our room 813 was everything one could wish for, with a balcony overlooking tropical type gardens....This block was a little way from the main building but even umbreallas are provided in the wardrobe for use in the rain!
Very quiet...More than adequate teas/coffees and cups etc..mini bar/fridge...
2 Queen beds large flat screen tv, and Wifi access - although this did cost $10 for 24 hours...but cheaper than some places we had stayed and very quick easy to work from the room.....
Staff were SO helpful and polite.....
Everything is thought of, there is hand wash detergent, iron, ironing board provided in room and many toileteries - laundry (not very far from our room) very easy to use... When travelling around for weeks some people need to do washing!
I had an issue where my purse and i phone had fallen from my rucksack on the walk out, and when we reached reception they could not have been any more helpful...luckily phoning the police for me and someone had handed it in at the local liquer store!!! phew!
We only ate breakfast one of the days, they finish serving at 9.30..., but very nice and the waiting staff lovely... We had a buffet one night, plenty of choice and A la carte another night, all lovely.
We will be back here again the next time we go to Paihia....
Such a nice relaxed feeling about the whole property.....

We stayed for three nights from 25/2/13 and booked our two bedroom Unit through ANZCRO in Australia, and were pleasantly surprised with our Unit, it is very modern, clean and the beds were very comfortable. The reception staff on arrival were very nice and nothing was too much trouble, a porter was organised to take our luggage to our room, and this really helped us after our drive from Auckland. It was great to get the newspaper to our door each morning. The second bedroom where the two single beds are felt a little cramped, but met our needs. The bathroom was airy and modern, and great water pressure and nice hot shower. The room is open plan style with the Flat Screen TV on the wall where the queen bed is in the main area of the room. There is a mini bar fridge, and when we needed ice with our drinks of a night time, we went down to the kitchen and the staff gladly gave us some ice, which was really appreciated. This hotel did not have a toaster in our room, if you did not plan to use the Restaurant for meals, this is a problem, as we wanted to make own toast for breakfast, but the staff did advise the kitchen would toast our bread for us if we wished. We felt that for a Unit for 4 people the main room did not have sufficient seats for all, and some of us had to sit on the bed, but this is only minor issue, and over all it was a really great stay, very quiet, clean and efficient hotel, thanks to all the staff for a wonderful stay.
