We had the pleasure of spending 5 days in this hotel last week. We had a view of the bay from our room. The units, while smallish, were well designed. The kitchen area was nicely laid out and perfect for having dinner in which is all one needs after long days seeing the sights the bay of islands has to offer. Lynn was the consummate host looking after all of our needs. She was kind enough to book our tours for us both of which were marvellous with terrific guides. We were fortunate enough to have a unit with a garden out front well above the road which helped reduce the road noise, something which is constant in Piahia. Would recommend to all travelers.

My arrival time at the motel was delayed due to cancelled flights. I called them to let them know and they went out of their way to ensure that my reception late at night went smoothly. To make my stay even more enjoyable they upgraded me! Great hosts who ensured my stay was enjoyable.

The owners here, Lyn and John, really seem to genuinely care about their guests - at least going by my experience. They helped me cancel a booking I had made by mistake (similarly named Breakwater Apartments in Napier) such that I didn't have to pay a cancellation fee. They offered good, considered advice when asked questions. And they also always said hi with a smile when walking past.

The modern and very clean motel rooms are spacious with a flat screen modern tv (with Sky channels) in both the bedroom and the main room. They are well insulated for noise. The air con works a treat although sitting on the verandah with the ocean breeze is awesome. They also have a kitchen with microwave and fridge (no oven) which we took advantage of. The motel is about 2 mins walk from Paihia shops and the ferry terminal. It is also just across from the beach.

Would recommend to family and friends.

We returned to Paihia on 13 December 2012 and stayed at the Breakwater Motel.
When I told owner Lyn why we were staying she immediately offered us a more expensive
room with amazing close up seaviews. On our special day we got back to our room to
find some flowers plus a bottle of champagne!! Lyn also took some photos for us.
Our accomodation was superb, loved the couch to lie on watching the sea! Also extremely modern & sparkling clean. We're going to return for sure.
