“Great place to visit”

Great historical place to visit without being bored to death, it was great to see the Waka and all the Iwi's carvings around it. Beautiful place to walk around can spend hours just wondering around

“Essential History Lesson”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

Nice summary of the background and implementation of the treaty between UK and Maori tribes. Meeting House and War Canoe good examples but the best are in the Auckland Museum.

“Inspirational and an amazing insight into NZ history”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

Whilst this was probably best described as off-season, I would highly recommend taking the guided tour of the site. I came away feeling that I learned a lot about New Zealand history. If you are heading to the northern part of NZ, make the Treaty Grounds part of your itinerary.

“Informative, historical sight”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

I enjoyed my visit to the Waitangi treaty grounds. Paihia was our first stop in NZ so it was nice to learn about some of it's important history, right at the beginning of our trip. There is lots to learn about and some great photo opportunities here. They have the longest canoe in the world and some great views over the bay of islands. A must see if you are staying in Paihia.

“A New Zealand icon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2012

Perfect surroundings provide the perfect environment to a simply stated reminiscence of New Zealand's early beginnings. If you want to understand why New Zealand is the liberal, welcoming, cosmopolitan country that it is in the 21st century then visit this museum to see how that all started in the 19th century
