“A wonderful long weekend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2012

My wife and I enjoyed a suite for 4 days and enjoyed excellent service a very comfortable and convenient suite overlooking the bay to Russell. Combining the service, convenient location in Paihia and to the far north attractions, great relaxing view, very clean and confortable suite and of course the perfect weather we could not have wished for more.

Room Tip: Our corner suite was very comfortable, quiet and had a great view of the bay and the wonderful sunri...

My husband and I stayed in this Kingsgate Autolodge after the overnight Bay of Islands Ipipiri Cruise. The hotel allowed us to store our bags there while on the cruise and were very helpful at all times. The rooms were basic but very clean, all you need when on the road each day, cap parking is also free. The hotel is in a great position on the bay, close to ferries, restaurants and shops. Also it is lovely to cross the road and go for walks around the bay. The pool was heated and bar had a great view. All in all we would recommend this hotel as a great place to stay.

We stayed at the Kingsgate Autolodge at Paihia with friends with a fantastic view across the water to Russell. The grounds and pool at the front were very attractive and our unit had two bedrooms, a bathroom and separate loo. It had a huge living room/kitchen and was well-equipped except of course no-one ever provides scissors!! We always take our own feather pillows and scissors. The pillows were dreadful of course! We can recommend room 301 but the dining room is very dated and the buffet meal was awful and over-cooked. I wouldn't recommend a meal here but breakfast was ok. The staff in the dining room were very pleasant and helpful. If you use the hot tub/spa be careful as it is very slippery around there when wet and difficult to climb in and out of.

Room Tip: Room 301 faces the beautiful view and is large and very well-equipped except the pillows were poor.

I apologise that your meal was not up to the standard you expected. However as you can see from other reviews we receive very few unfavourable comments about restaurant meals.

Regards.

Great location. Room was excellent (really appreciated the non misting mirror in the bathroom)
The nightly Buffett was fantastic - so were the breakfasts. Staff very friendly. One of the best hotel's around, just a really relaxing good time. Great spa.

This was my stay at Kingsgate with my kids. We had a basic downstairs room. It had no view but was very clean, quiet and close to everything. The beds were comfy and the linen was good quality. The shower was one of the best I've experienced in a hotel. I liked the separate toilet and bathroom which gave us extra room to spread out the wet togs and towels. The room did get quite hot at night but the air conditioner was available if we needed it. We barely saw the staff which was fine by us. The pool is beautiful but a liitle on the cold side. We didn't eat at the hotel as we were so close to so many choices at every price range. The best thing about the Kingsgate is the location. It is literally 40 steps from the restaurants, bars, shops, beach etc. There was a market on close by as well which had nice cheeses, oils, breads, fruit and nuts etc. Would definitely choose this hotel again

Room Tip: I would try for a second floor balcony room - the views are too good to miss

We stayed two nights in a one bedroom room 406 directly facing the Bay. We were concerned that the road noise would be a problem but after 9pm there was next to no traffic. The room was well presented with great facilities other than a hairline crack in the vanity and the door to the bedroom did not close which now hopefully have been fixed. We found having the kitchen very convenient even though we also ate out. However, it was the direct view of the Bay particularly at sunrise was what made it especially memorable. These rooms are a lot more than the standard rooms but the view makes it really worth it.

Room Tip: Pay the extra and get a direct view of the Bay and get up to watch the sun rise. Magical.

Most guests find that the extra cost of our suites is well worth it.
