“Wonderful place to stay- don't pass it up”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2013

We had 4 nights here at the end of a month travelling around both islands. The views are spectacular and the short drive down to town is no biggie for views like we had. Norm and shelagh are wonderful people, very helpful with advice on what to do, booked our trips, drove us to town for one of them and when we hadn't shown up at the allotted tine, norm drove down t o try and find us! Our 2bedroom room with kitchen was very comfortable, clean and suited us perfectly. We were not expecting mod cons, we were expecting comfort and a view and we were not disappointed. I highly recommend norm and shelagh's cook's lookout.

We'd booked via email almost a year in advance. As Norm and Sheila had moved office since they'd mislaid our booking - but very quickly rectified things and put us in a lovely unit. The view was fantastic, the unit well equipped, clean and spacious. Norm and Sheila offered us advice on where to go/what to see and where to eat out - all much appreciated. They even remembered to email us to ask us to submit a review when we got home! Well recommended if you've got transport (as too far from the main Pahia town to walk to shops/restaurants etc.

We loved the Cook's Lookout Motel. The view is truly beautiful (the photos on the website don't even do it justice) and the environment really quiet and peaceful (since it's a few minutes drive from "downtown" Paihia). The location is still really convenient to things like supermarkets etc. Norm and Shelagh are great - real characters and really helpful if you need pointers on activities, restaurants etc. I want to go back now!!!

We stayed two nights in room 6, and the whole hotel has a wonderful ambience. It was in a very beautiful and quiet location overlooking the ocean, and had wonderful in-bed views of the ocean and surrounding areas. This room had a patio and a private view, so the windows could be left open throughout the night, thus waking up to beautiful sunrises over the ocean. There was a BBQ by the pool, and Norm and Shelagh were very kind and checked in with us each night to make sure the light would be on for the BBQ area. They were extremely kind and friendly, and gave us great suggestions on the don't miss sights in the area, including a trip to Russell, and some wonderful drives with views.

This place was the highlight of our trip to the North Island. If a serene, romantic, quiet location is what you desire, look no further. It met all of our needs, and the hosts could not have been nicer.

Room Tip: We loved room 6. Private view, and a patio to have a glass of wine in the evenings. Lovely.

Great location, what a place to start and finish the day... stunning view of the bay...
Less than 5 minutes drive to main stream Paihia, you'll surely get the peace and quiet you need after a busy day...
Very comfy accommodation... My wife is 4 months pregnant, our daughter is 3 years old and we're also travelling with my 60 year old mother-in-law (whose already suffering from minor knee problems)... We stayed in room 7 (personally recommended by Norm by the way) for 5 nights, the rooms may not be the biggest from experience but definitely laid everyone's tired body comfortably... The room recommended was just perfect as the main door was also on ground level... The room was also self catering equipped with very decent cooking and eating facilities... I would never think twice recommending Cooks Lookout Motel to friends and I would personally stay here again given the chance...
Finally, our hosts Norm and Shelagh highly deserve some A+++ for the very personalised service extended to us during the duration of our stay...
Well done, guys!!! Cheers...

Room Tip: Would recommend rooms 7 and 8 for the best view of the bay...

We came here from the quite impressive Hilton in Aukland which we also enjoyed but waking up to the wonderful view, the peaceful environment, the friendly welcome and even the washing facilities meant that we enjoyed it even more. Not posh, but wonderful.

While we were unfortunate to have heavy rains during our stay we were more than pleased with our accommodation. Norm and Shelagh were welcoming and helpful throughout, giving us good tips on where to go and where to eat (Lips had yummy sticky date pudding!). The room we had was terrific. The views (we did see before the rain started) were breathtaking, there was everything we needed in the kitchenette, the bathroom was spotless and the shower very good indeed. While we spent more time in the room than we'd expected, due to the weather, we enjoyed it. Norm & Shelagh's selection of dvds helped with that. The wifi worked well, and it was all round a very fine place to stay. We plan to return in good weather - hoping that Norm can order some up for us.

Room Tip: We spent 5 weeks touring NZ and this rates top of the list. If you want privacy this is it.
