“Very friendly hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2007

It is a very nice little hotel with very helpful and friendly staff. It's not luxurious, but it does not pretend to be, but it is good value for money.

  • Liked — the helpful reception staff
  • Disliked — the pattern of the blankets is not very nice ;-)

We had the best time staying here! The staff was extremely helpful with our daily treks, offering the best views, favorite places along the way, restaurants/cafes and fun things to do in the area.
Our room was cozy, had exactly what we needed, and was accessible to all the hotel offerings (laundry, parking, hot tub/pool, restaurant).
The hotel's location was perfect for walking to the beach, shops, ferries, and other places of interest. We, in fact, extended our stay there because our schedule was flexible and we didn't want to leave!
The hotel and its rooms were clean, the staff very efficient and knowledgeable, and the food offerings were varied, interesting, and good. When we're in the area again, we would certainly go back.
It was a great experience as a first impression to that area and to the people who call it home.

Have stayed in two different rooms - both were very spacious. One was split level giving a feeling of seperate lounge area, the other had an adjoining room which was great for the kids. The pool area is refreshingly different - like a tropical paradise. Very pleasant stays and great value for money.

The great staff were pretty much the only plus of staying at the Paihia Pacific Resort.

Rooms were very dated, without even so much as a kettle! The toilet wasn't even bolted to the floor properly.

The room we were given was directly opposite the reception area, anyone in there could see straight into our room. So we had the curtains drawn and the lights on the entire time (since that was the only window in the room).

You could hear people coming and going to. Doors opening and closing and people walking down the corridoor...

You can definitley find better than this in Paihia.

The motel is situated in a row with the backpacker's of Paihia.
The room was ok for the price we paid. We expected nothing more.
The pool is rather small.
However, we were very positivly surprised by the friendliness and effectiveness of the hotel staff. It is definitely worth listending to their advice on tours and let them book their recommendations for you!

Contrary to previous reviews I have read, I found this hotel good value for money. I visited at the end of November. My room was clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel was in quite a good position in the resort - near to some bar/restaurants and shops. The hotel itself had a very nice restaurant and the dinner menu was varied and competitively priced. There was a swimming pool situated in a pleasant garden area and a deck with sunloungers - ideal for relaxing. The hotel had a small bar with tables also set outside overlooking the pool.

Over-priced and very dated. We paid less for top-notch 4* accommodation in Queenstown and Auckland, where the hotels were far more sophisticated and had far better facilities.

I would liken this to student accommodation and give it a 2 star/2 star plus at most.

One positive is that it's the last hotel on the road so is away from the hub-bub (but still only minutes walk away).
