“old & dark room, unprofessional cleaning service, nice pool area”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2012

We stayed in one of the back units on the ground level (meant to be the "superior" rooms). Our room was dark (had to press up against the windows to get natural light) , old (some fixtures such as bathroom tap barely hanging on). Fridge was loud and toilet could drip constantly if not flushed just the right way. Units are also definitely not sound proof and doors closing reverberates throughout.

Cleaning staff could regularly be found en-mass smoking in outdoor stairwells, while rooms remained un-serviced until after 2pm. (Hotel states that rooms will be serviced between 10am and 12:30pm.). Not a good look - rather unprofessional.

Also, gym was pretty gross and possibly unsafe with equipment barely hanging in there (no understatement).

Though our room & cleaning service was definitely not the greatest, Paihia Pacific does have a lovely pool/spa/sauna area where we spent an afternoon. Staff on reception were very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Perhaps the upper floors have better natural light, not sure.

We stayed 2 nights. Each in a separed room.
Very clean rooms, full equipt. Nice bathroom with shower, and well addapted for disable people, if you ask for it by booking, maybe a chair in the badroom should be welcome.
In the other room was a bad in the bathroom.
Nice room, free wifi, coffee or tea, TV, etc...where disponible in the room.
Super friendly staff.
Nice swimmingpool.
The restaurant, with the stone grilled meals, a real thing you had to experience.
My rating would be trippel A, oh sorry thats for countries. LOL

Welcomed by the friendly staff and was given an upgrade to larger room at the rear of the hotel which had views over the village. The room was split level with two double beds and a large bathroom which had both shower and large bath. It was a short walk down to the wharf area and there were a few good lively bars situated a few steps away beside the backpacker hostels. I had breakfast included in my room deal - as i had a really early start one morning it was delivered to my room the previous night. The buffet breakfast had a good choice. There was a resturant on site as well for evening meals but never eat there. Also a small outisde pool.

This was a big disappointment. The rooms seemed reasonable but on closer inspection were dirty, had to clean deck chairs, tub and sink stained and cracking, fridge noisy throughout the night, could hear neighbors and an extremely rude owner. Only redeeming thing was front staff who were very pleasant and helpful.

Thank you for your feedback. We are an owner-operated business that prides itself on its commitment to customer service and exceeding our guest expectations.
We will always endeavour to address any issues to the satisfaction of our guests - my responsibilties are to all our guests, my staff and the Hotel.
Solutions and alternatives to any issues raised were offered, even accommodation at another Hotel - we regret we were unable to meet your expectations in this instance. However, as you can see from other reviews we have many happy guests that have stayed with us and often are repeat staying guests. The Bay of Islands is an idyllic holiday escape and there are an array of activities on offer should you wish to visit the region again in the future.

Booked on line at a good rate and were delighted to receive a double upgrade! Big, well-appointed split-level room, quiet and at the back of the property. Well worth it.
