“Memorable long day out”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2013

We endorse other recent reviews:many different places and experiences without having to drive; we learnt lots from the very interesting Local driver; as 66 year olds we just watched the sand boarding down high steep dunes - a great laugh - but the walk to Cape Rienga point was quite easy. Highlights were 1 a visit to Gum Diggers camp (not included in other tours) to see ancient Kauri tree trunks being dug out, and reconstructions of the 19th century camps used by Gum prospectors (it's like Amber), 2 at the end a stop at a fish restaurant for fishnchips in the paper or sushi etc, sitting by a beautiful river as the sun set.
The only downside was the rather bumpy ride the sturdy vehicle gives.

“Wonderful full day trip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2013 via mobile

We booked the dune rider trip as we wanted to see the Cape Reinga and were staying in Paihia. There are several options available - but Dune Rider was highly recommended by the motel.

We were picked up at the motel - which saved getting into town and parking for the day. Lots of stops en-route. The Gumdigger park was very interesting (and didn't seem to be listed elsewhere). Fantastic views all day and a wonderful running commentary from the driver - together with lots of hints about other places to visit.

Definitely recommended

“Big day out”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2013

This trip was another memorable day in this wonderland. The bus was comfortable the driver polite, approachable and informative. We did not get his name but he comes from Keri Keri so he would not be too hard for the bosses to track down and pass this message. To drive on ninety mile beach at some speed was an exhilarating experience. The sand dune ride and the ancient Kauri forest walkabout were other highlights. Great value for money particularly if you can combine with their affiliated Bay of Islands cruise. Thoroughly recommended to all. Regards Tony and Tanya.

“Full Day of Fun, Info and Great Scenery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2013

A full day tour and I didn't have to drive. The bus was comfortable ( needed somewhere to put backpacks and lunch packs though ) and the driver was very courteous and informative. The tour is great value for money. the only down side of this tour is the slow climb up the sand dune ( I did suggest a chair lift ) because the slide down is soooo fast and quick. I would have done it again but it was too steep to go up again. Once was enough anyway. Gum Diggers Park was great. Manganui Fish House has good smoked fish, I didn't like the deep fried fish though.

“Great day out”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2013

We took this tour to save our car from the sand. Great guide picked us up at our hotel in Kerikeri at about seven fifteen. He was welcoming and informative through the day. We had a pit stop about 1 1/2 hours out at a restaurant where we picked up our lunches (they were good!). On to 90 mile beach - the bus drive on the beach with stops for photos, to see wild horses and to dip our feet in the Tasman Sea. A turn into the dunes and board were available for surfing the sand. Outdoor toilets were clean and scent free! Then to Cape Reinga and views of the lighthouse and the Indian Ocean meeting the Pacific. Beautiful place. Stop at interesting Gum Diggers Museum and then dinner at the Manganui Fish House - mmmm - fish and chips. Long day but money well spent.
