I stopped at this pub after a long day of fishing on the Bay for a Guinness, which was properly served and an excellent tipple. I checked out the menu, and after the next long day of touring we decided to pop on down to this place for a late dinner. We were very disappointed. The hamburger I ordered was long on beetroot, pickles, tomato, lettuce and bun, but fell well short on the burger. It was very small and quite grisly with big chunks of fat which had to be discarded (i.e. spit out), despite the fairly steep price for pub food. My partners' fish and chips was soggy with uncooked batter. The staff is friendly and pours and great Guinness, but there is no follow up. This is a place where you pay in advance and get served, and then no one comes by to see if the food is okay, despite the fact that it was late (about 8:30pm) and the place wasn't very busy. All in all, an utter disappointment. There are many places to grab a bite in Paihia, but I wouldn't recommend this as one of them.
