“Lovely views, charming hosts”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2010

We had a lovely visit to Napier staying at The Landing. Very nice position but the walk back up the hill was a bit of a challenge! Very nice breakfast and comfortable, modern furnishings.

We have traveled throughout NZ to several B&Bs and would rate this up at the top. The ocean view suite is the most amazing room we have stayed in. The hosts, Jill and Allan are welcoming, it really felt like we were "at home". The beds were comfortable, breakfast to order if you wanted hot food on top of continental style. We wanted to bring dinner in just to enjoy the incredible views. Really well run. The only downside is no wireless internet (there was a high speed computer there to use that was wired), which we have had in every other B&B.
Fantastic stay-wish we could have stayed longer!

We stayed at The Landing in November while we were visiting New Zealand. We stayed almost exclusively in B&B's, and this was by far one of our favorites. Jill and Alan made us feel at home the minute we arrived . They were so friendly, made sure we had everything we needed, and gave us a wonderful bottle of wine to enjoy. They can tell you the best places to eat and give you tips on different places to see as well as any wineries you should visit. Unfortunately, when we stayed at The Landing, the Bayview Suite and the Lookout Room were already booked. We stayed in The Studio which was great. It is located at the back of the house with its own separate entrance. The room was very spacious with a new wonderful king size bed, nice modern bathroom, and refrigerator . The Landing sits high on a hill where you can sit in the living room or on the deck and enjoy the spectacular views of the harbor . You walk into town or you can take an inexpensive cab ride.

Thanks again Jill and Alan for making our trip to Napier so wonderful.

It's always comforting when travelling to have hosts that make you feel like your at home in their home. The house is ultra modern & everything we could possibly need was catered for. We had a wonderful breakfast each morning where everything was home made including the spreads... A bottle of local wine on arrival, warm & friendly hosts, secure parking & then there's the room.
We stayed in the lookout room & it was great. A large comfortable bed, amazing views to wake up or fall asleep to, personal bathroom with modern decor & even our own fridge as if we were in a hotel. We couldn't have asked for anything more as everything was available. My husband even tells me the pool was great for a quick dip. I was too busy having a glass of wine taking in the breathtaking views.
It's a shame we couldn't stay longer but when we pass through Napier again we will be coming back for sure. A big thanks to Jill & Alan for their warm hospitality, great knowledge of the area & amazing home. All the best & see you both again, soon we hope!

We stayed in many B&Bs on our recent trip round NZ and the Landing was a highpoint in terms of the quality of accomodation in the Bayview Suite (see other reviews about the spacious, fantastic bathroom) with its breathtaking view over the bay. Yes, it is up on Bluff Hill rather than down in the town but you can't beat that view and a taxi back up the hill when you're feeling lazy is hardly a signficant expense. Everything in our suite was very well thought out for comfort and convenience from the welcoming bottle of wine in the fridge to the offer of more towels to ensure we got the best out of that bathroom. What really made our stay here special though was the warm welcome we received from Jill and Allan; full of good suggestions, tips and entertaining stories, we were never made to feel that anything they could do for us was too much trouble. It was a real pleasure to stay here and we will return next time we're in NZ.

The views from The Landing's upstairs bedroom are just incredibly calming and peaceful looking straight over the water. Whether sitting and reading, sipping on a Hawke's Bay red or white, or just chilling out it was a great place to be.

The Landing is situated up a hill in a dense residential district and it may seem a bit tricky to get to but follow Jill's instructions and you will be rewarded with fantastic views of Hawkes Bay. Parking is provided which is much needed on the narrow streets. On arrival we got a very warm welcome from Jill and a tour of their ultra modern and pristine home.
Unusually for most visitors we got to sample two rooms as the Bayview Suite was not available on our first night. Our first night was in the Lookout room which is at the back of the house on the top floor. It does not have an ensuite but the bathroom is adjoining and if you are travelling light, robes are provided. It was a very comfortable room with views of the Port and all the modern conveniences of any hotel. The rest of our stay was spent in the Bayview Suite. We had booked this for our anniversary and it is a must for any special occasion or a romantic (note to men: this suite would earn you lots of brownie points). Yes the views are to die for, but it is the combination of the uninterrupted views of both the bay, the cosy nook in which to sip your complimentary bottle of Hawkes Bay wine or watch a movie and the luxurious bathroom that is bigger than most apartments that means it is almost a crime to leave the suite to do anything else.
Jill's great strengths are her sense of fun, relaxed personality and desire to make sure that your stay not only at The Landing but also Napier are good. She made many suggestions that were very helpful and was happy to book us taxis or restaurants etc. We were touched by the roses, balloon and strawberries put in our room for our special day. Breakfast is a feast and worth making the time for.

Sadly, we missed meeting partner, Allan but we look forward to meeting him next time.

If you can stay in The Bayview Suite it is worth spending the differential amount of $$s to do so. It is not much more and certainly worth it. Having said that, once you stay there you may always want to book that room as whilst the other rooms are gorgeous too, the Bayview is in a different league.

Some might say that some of the noise drifts up from the port and might be put off but it is actually nice to be able to watch the activity going on there.

Pool was not warm enough to go in yet.

If you like modern homes with a view this a must!!
