“Perfect place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2013

I have stayed at The Landing Napier on several occasions, in each of the three great rooms. On this visit I booked the Bayview room for the wonderful view looking out over the port and Napier harbour. The sun coming in the windows during the day, and the beautiful sunsets and lights at night make it a perfect place to destress and relax.

This room has its own bathroom (as do all the rooms). This room also has a huge walk-in wardrobe, complete with mini kitchen and beautiful silk robes, that add to the luxurious feel which this B&B emanates.

The hosts, Allan and Jill, were wonderful. They were happy to pass on their extensive knowledge about the area (restaurants, wineries and things to do, and the breakfast was amazing.

This will be my only place to stay on future visits to Napier.

Room Tip: Although I am more than happy to stay in any of the rooms, the Bayview room has the best view and a...

Hello Krista
Thank you for your review. we enjoyed meeting you, and are glad that enjoyed the wonderful view from the Bayview Suite. We are lucky here in Hawkes Bay that we have so many great restaurants and cafes to recommend to guests. Perhaps next time you'll get to do a cycling tour of the wineries -this is always a popular option. Looking forward to seeing you again. Regards Jill and Allan

Jill and Alan are great hosts, being friendly and proactive with recommendations and kind offers to ferry you to restaurants. Their home is stylish and stunning. Our room had every convenience you could want and nice touches to make it feel more special. The view, over the bay and container port is a mixture of wow and interesting!

Jill was supremely accommodating about our last minute change of plans for how long we would stay. Hospitality at its best.

It was the most expensive of the bed and breakfasts we stayed in during our holiday but probably a just example of 'you get what you pay for'. Be aware that it is located up a fairly steep hill so unless you like walking you may want to get a taxi back from the centre of town. The container port can be a bit noisy if its working at night.

Hello Pip, Thank you for the review. Glad you enjoyed your time here at the Landing -"sunny Hawkes Bay" lived up to it's name as well. Yes the hill is steep -but we are always happy to run guests around, or a taxi is an inexpensive alternative to the walk back up after a great meal out. Hope to see you again on some future travels. regards Jill and Allan

If you are only going to just stay one night in Napier, like my wife and I did, this is definitely a great place to be. We arrived on the late side and got up relatively early, so our stay was brief. However, the host, Jill, was very welcoming and super friendly. She made us feel right at home. As for the views, wow! It is such a nice setting overlooking the water that we decided to pick up some food at the grocery store and eat it out on the deck, instead of going out to a restaurant, which is what we generally did on our 17 day journey. This B&B has a modern feel and they have done a wonderful job with the spacing. We happened to stay in the studio (only room available since we booked last minute), so I'm sure the preferred rooms to stay would be those overlooking the water. Nonetheless, we'd certainly recommend this place and it offer tremendous value.

Room Tip: Studio is cozy and functional, but you may want to opt for larger rooms with a view of the water, si...

Hello Chad
Thanks for taking the time to write a review. Yours was a brief visit! -so we were glad that you decided to make the most of your time here eating in. We often find guests will do that as an alternative to eating out all the time -and the view is hard to beat! I hope all went well for you at Cape Kidnappers -and that you enjoyed the rest of your trip. Perhaps we'll see you again on another visit to Napier -or perhaps Bali.
Regards
Jill and Allan

The host of the Landing, Jill, was our favourite thing about Napier - she was so warm and welcoming, and she even drove us into town so we could have a few drinks with dinner. The view from the property is sensational, and breakfast was yummy. Just excellent!

Room Tip: If I could do it again, I'd spring for the top front room.

Hello there- thanks for the review. I thought that was great being a "favourite thing" -I enjoyed meeting you both, and having a chat. I am now working my way through the icecream fridge at the supermarket -not that I needed much encouragement! - but it is hard to beat the local Rush Monroes icecream I was telling you about. I'll save the Bayview Suite for you for your next visit -we'd look forward to it.
Cheers, Jill and Allan

Stayed here in November( sorry for delay in review ) and could not fault it. The room, the hosts and the town all met my expectations and more! Everything is thought about as previous reviewers have stated and Jill is so friendly and helpful. The view is wonderful over the bay and I think the people who mentioned the container terminal forgot to look around elsewhere fom the balcony!
Absolutely loved Napier and if you like Art Deco you will be in heaven. The people in the Art Deco trust were wonderful , as are most New Zealanders. You won'tbe able to stop taking photographs. Don't miss the National Tobacco factory and the Theatre. Great food down by the wharf area.

Hello there -thanks for thinking of us! Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay -and that you enjoyed seeing the Art Deco buildings and chatting to the staff at the Trust. The Art Deco festival in February was a lot of fun again -perhaps you can come to that on a future visit. Thanks too for your comments re the container port. While the containers are not very picturesque, watching the ships that come in and out - including the cruise ships -has provided a lot of entertainment for guests. As I probably said to you -"There's always something to see with a view like ours". We'll hope you can come back sometime for another visit. Best regards, Jill and Allan

Stayed at The Landings or two nights. Had a great time with Jill & Alan who couldn't have been more friendly and welcoming. The house lends itself so well to B&B with excellent views across the port to the bay. Accommodation couldn't be faulted in terms of cleanliness. Breakfast was good and varied. If you want to walk into Napier from here need to be reasonably fit but there is no need to do so as Alan & Jill happy to drop off and taxi for return around $12. Would be happy to stay again.
