We stopped in Napier, NZ for several days to play golf and visit the lovely country side. Our stay at the Breckenridge Lodge, a quiet five bedroom lodge, with host Malcolm was perfect. We arrived late morning and after settling down we quickly ran out for a fantastic round of golf at Cape Kidnappers, 40 minutes away. As we were leaving we asked Malcolm where we should go for dinner, he responded that he would be glad to "make something up for us". Well, he not only whipped up dinner but to our surprise it turned out to be a memorable 5 course dinner presented very artistically. (his meals were thee best we had in all of NZ) Malcolm, as it turns out is a 5 star gourmet chef! He was excited to tell us exactly what was presented in front of us and was willing to explain how it was made and was very willing to share his recipes. ALSO, he was a wine cellar that can rival and true wine enthusiast! Each course was paired with the perfect wine! You will be surprised with the arrangement of the 6 wine glasses at every plate.
Breakfast was equally as impressive, he makes the yogurt, jam and everything else from scratch!
If you are looking to have a group for cooking classes I could not think of a better place to learn and stay.
Malcolm built the lodge with great thought and concern for his guests.
One person commented that Malcolm knew your every want before you even knew.
Check out the walking trail and gardens on the property along with the chicken coop that provides the eggs for breakfast.
As you can tell our group was truly impressed with every aspect of our stay at Breckenridge. If you are looking for a quiet, clean, homey place with good food, wine and service go to the Breckenridge Lodge. I think it is a treasure that needs to be shouted out to all that plan on visiting Napier.
Each room has a fantastic view.
