Domaine seemed to lose it's standing a wee bit in the last few years, and seemed to drop off the list of the places to dine at. However good to see it is having a resurgence. We last dined here approx two to three years ago and were the only diners (mid week). and at that time I had a foreboding it may not last - and yet that experience was not bad, it just felt like a ghost restaurant.. This time the restaurant had more diners, and I am glad to say that lent to a better atmosphere. But of course the food should get a mention too. Fat succulent Bluff Oysters were a good start to the meal, and hubby's bruschetta on ciabatta was outstanding (I know because he insisted I taste the bruschetta, it was that lovely). Mains, hubby had the Wakanui Eye Fillet and it was cooked to perfection. Even though it came with mash, he decided he would like the steamed potatoes as well - and they did not disappoint, a basic side but done well. Myself I had an entree as a main - which was pork belly with scallops - and my verdict: Yum, Yum that's the one - especially receiving scallops which had large roes intact. The corn mash was an unusual addition, and finished it off well.
So a good dining experience, which we thoroughly enjoyed. Service was excellent, and the final nice touch - the little complimentary tasting plates - a pork and apple spring roll before our starters, and even though we didn't order dessert, two lovely little chocolate morsels (like a very moist brownie?)
Thank You to the staff at Domaine - we will return. Keep this up and you will remain on the Hamilton dining list for many years to come
