“Very good value, nice apartment but....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2014

We had seen this place when it was newly built and we always intended to stay there one day so we spent five nights in a 3rd floor apartment with a harbour view. Loved the kitchen and bathroom, thought the lounge and bedroom furniture starting to look a little tired but it was comfortable and relaxing and, despite the logging operations across the way, very peaceful.
However the TV was rubbish, no Sky despite the Sky magazine being displayed on the table and reception advising me it would be sorted - never was. But the really annoying part of our stay was that four times staff walked in on us, three times when we had the "privacy please" sign on our door handle. The excuse " oh we thought you had checked out or we did not know anyone was in this room". Reception assured me that our bookings clearly stated the day we were to leave. Come on Portside that is not good enough!
However we did enjoy eating our breakfast on the little deck and the location was perfect, we walked to most local restaurants, shops etc.

Room Tip: Ensure you book a room overlooking the harbour but be aware that extensive logging operations contin...

I wouldn't normally stay at an Apartment Hotel, but had little choice as the town was full and I had not reserved accommodation until the day before I arrived.
Nevertheless, the staff welcomed me and told me that I had got the second last room. The apartment had a large lounge/kitchen with a separate good-sized bedroom fitted with a King sized bed, which was very comfortable. The bathroom was well appointed with a large spa bath with shower over. This was a bit awkward for us oldies, but very clean and tidy.
The lifts were very slow and my pot side view was actually the roof of the nearby Red Shed Warehouse. Guess I was on the wrong side for the portside view. The location was handy to the City's main street and a short walk took me there and another short walk took me to the local Fishing Club bar and restaurant. All in all a good place to stay if you are into apartment/ motel type accommodation.

Room Tip: I have not marked room service or restaurant because none exist.

We stayed here for four nights in December in a harbour view suite (one bedroom) on the top floor.Check in was quick and easy which was welcome following a long flight from the UK. We have stayed here several times over a number of years and the high standards have been maintained. The suite was excellent, clean and a good size. The kitchen area had good facilities including a dishwasher, washing machine and dryer.
In the living area there was an old style TV and the furniture could have done with an update but otherwise was fine. There is air conditioning in both in the living area and the bedroom and balconies in both rooms over looking the river and towards the Port.
The accommodation was good value for about £100 a night.
The hotel is located literally two minutes from the beach and is very close to the town centre and in walking distance of some excellent places to eat.

I really did love this hotel. We had a 3rd floor one bedroom facing the harbour. Very clean and quiet. The view was amazing. Our 'older check in Lady' unsure of her name needs to attend a customer service course, she was unhelpful, and rather rude.

After reading recent reviews about this Boutique Hotel , I was a bit intrepid but like all Hotels we have mixed reviews likes and dislikes and this Hotel was no exception.

The reception staff were friendly ,polite and helpful , the generous sized apartments consist of Two spacious lounge with Balcony and separate bedroom.

It was spotless--had huge triangular Bathtub complete with Shower.

Fascinated by watching a huge ship being loaded with Pine logs across the River

Swimming pool area was also quiet and catches the sun.

I can commend this wonderful Riverside location Boutique Hotel and would stay there again--well done staff

Room Tip: Request a Riverside apartment for the better vista

Stayed five nights in a lovely 3 rd floor one bedroom apartment. Great view overlooking the port and river facing Kaiti hill and morning sun. There was a full kitchen but with gisborne eateries this was not needed. A small incident was put to rights by the resident manager, I was really impressed. The aircon in both lounge and bedroom made for a really pleasant stay. There was no smoke or food smells no loud guests either. The decor with dark furniture is a bit dark but is not a problem. The one night in a studio room was not planned but was given as a complimentary night due to small incident. I would strongly rec going for the rooms with a bedroom and overlooking wharf, there is only traffic noise when the doors to the deck are open particularly early morning. The wifi in the room was pretty good, especially in the mornings by evening when the place is full it's much more likely to drop off. Tv was with a limited selection of channels, and we were not told but if we had wanted to watch DVDs we would have had to ask for a player

Looks good from the outside. Our room was ok ... Although had a strong odour of curry as if someone had been cooking curries in there for ten years. Only one towel provided and by the time we got down to reception to request another they'd shut up shop for the night. Bathroom light flickered and flickered until it just died. Perhaps that explains the ceiling access being left wide open when we arrived. Beware this town shuts down and we couldn't get a meal at 9pm (in fairness it was a Sunday night). Bed was comfortable enough but enclosed by quite close cupboards I was afraid if I rolled over too quick I'd knock myself out.
I'm not generally a fussy traveller but expect better for the price compared to others.
