“Not That Bad”

Personally I dont think the motel was outdated at all, it was very clean and very accomodating.
The only problem we had was the fact that a group of us had come over for the wine festival and were treated what i thought was to be a bit harsh on our second night. Of course it was expected that we would all be a bit on the "out of orderly" side by the time we got back to the motel after our fantastic day at the festival, only to be told at 8.30 pm that if we didnt quieten down we would have the police called on us.......... (i had been a bit rowdy for about 10 minutes.....) The amusing part was that we had made much more noise the night before and the motel managers said they hadnt heard a thing. At the end of the day we all still had a great time and the motel managers were really quite accomodating, patient and helpful apart from that one comment. If it wasnt for that we would all have been more than happy to have stayed there again next year. (But then they probably wouldnt have us!) It was the Wine Festival weekend afterall and some noise should have been expected. Maybe in future, motels should keep this in mind.

We stayed here on New Years Eve having been directed here by the duty motel as the last room available. We stayed the previous night at The Senator (see other review).

This motel charged us $170.00 for a very very dated room. I would say it was built circa 1965 - 1970 with very little upgrades ever done since. The rooms are concrete block and hence dark and cold. There was still 1970's wood panelling, musty wooden cupbards and draws. Roll together beds. Dining furniture was mostly broken with loose screws left lying on the single bed in the lounge! I personally wouldn't sit on the couch it was so old and grimy, my less discerning husband even had trouble coping with it! There was a lack of standard equipment like a microwave, radio or efficent heater. The rooms while not filthy were decidedly grimy with the only saving grace being clean linen although the bedspreads were dubious. The shower had a noticeable build up of body grease.

Upon booking in the manager gave us a thorough looking over even peering into our vehicle, this I presume is because she had told the booking agent she did not want any customers who were attending a local music festival but still it made us feel decidedly unwelcome. When walking over to the office to pay in the morning I was subjected to the same scrutiny as I crossed the carpark. Weird! The ultimate upset however was the cleaners stacking all their cleaning equipment outside our door right on the dot of 10.00am as we were collecting our belongings to check out. We laughed the experince off and said never again. If you just wanted somewhere to pop your head for the night it would be OK, but not at a premium price. I would suggest having recently stayed at an almost carbon copy motel in Otorohunga; that was exceptionally clean with new linen, carpet and curtain; pricing nearer to $100- $120 would be appropriate. Even at that pricing we would never choose to stay here again.

What a difference to the previous night at The Senator which was fabulous and cheaper!
