“Small but very good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2014

A wet day, so off to the local museum. We weren't disappointed. A well laid out display of early Gisborne and a great Art Gallery which was showing a photography exhibition of NZ women. We also enjoyed the coffee in their cafe.

“Don't miss it !!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2014

One of the best provincial museums I have visited. They have just completed a large new addition and the café is great.

“Interesting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2014

Very interesting look and well set out displays. Busy place and they had a new display so to encourage people to attend it was free.

“Small museum, worth an hour of your time”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2014

There is very little to do in Gisborne, but it is a lovely little town for a stroll, and not too far to the museum. There was a nice collection of north island and Gisborne history, and a fairly well done exhibit section on Maori history and culture, though if you are traveling by cruise ship you may find this somewhat repetitive with other stops as far as Maori exhibits go. The museum admission is free.

“A wee bit tired, but ok”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2014

A slightly eclectic collection, but reflective of local history. Building a bit tired, but still worth a look to get a perspective on the environs
