“Cute Japanese Place Tucked away in Kingsland”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2012

We came to Taiko for a quick dinner before the pub quiz at the Kingslander. It was early but already almost all of the tables had "reserved" signs on them, which shows its popularity. We ordered a few things off the menu to share which were all well-presented and very nice. The service was friendly and everything came out super quick. We particularly enjoyed the beef tataki. We also liked the origami box that came out with the edamame!

“Great Japanese”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2011

Nothing like going to a Japanese restaurant cooked by authentic Japanese chef. The owner is a friendly jovial Kiwi bloke who lived in Japan for a while. The beef was perfectly cooked, the seaweed salad and sashimis were fresh. Restaurant is hidden behind a row of restaurants. Parking is a bit of a pain but what to do is you are around other great restaurants along the road.

“Good quality Great Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2011

We went on the day of the RWC quarter finals. It was heaving.
We hadn't booked and they still managed to find the two of us a space.
Quality of the food , despite the crowds was undiminished.
Thoroughly recommended

“Excellent Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2011

We visited Taiko on a Saturday night after making reservation in the morning. The place was packed. Ian was the Manager that night and he was so apologetic as we were delayed in seating by may be five minutes and offered to buy us a round of drinks..(There was no need for it, as the restaurant was packed).

Food quality was excellent, and the service was very prompt. As we ordered additional items after our first order, they were brought out very quickly so we never had to wait. For kids, it was their first outing to a Sushi place (they normally enjoy Tappanyaki) and they fell in love with the restaurant and Ian's hospitality.
