“Good food but expensive for the portions”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2013

We hadn't been here in at least a year so we thought we'd give it a go. We were always impressed with the good service, generous portions and unique atmosphere. They've still got good service and atmosphere but we spent $29 each for our mains and we were still hungry. They've changed the menu considerably (although to be fair it had been a while since we were there) so our old favourites weren't listed any longer. The food we ordered was good but 4 small pieces of steamed broccoli? Really guys? We had to order chips to help fill us up.

We looked at what other people ordered and everything looked a little on the small side. You'd expect that in the middle of Ponsonby but I'm not sure how keen we'll be to make the drive out there again just to leave hungry.

“A great lunch!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2013

We took the local Beefsteak & Bugundy Club on a tour of the Kumeu wineries & had arranged to lunch at Bees Online.
The choice available was really good & well priced. What impressed the whole group was their ability to serve a large group, with a variety of lunch choices expeditiously- no mean feat! And it was not only served quickly, but was of excellent quality.

“Honeyed squid, prawn salad- a taste sensation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

These lightly cooked squid and prawns come with the most deilcious beetroot and honey sauce.
It sounds scary but was one of the nicest dishes I have tasted.
Combined with a fresh leafy salad the tasty squid and prawns are full of flavour and a great contrast to the beetroot and walnut honey sauce!

“"Not wanting to be as busy as the bees"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2013

Had a voucher for a dinner for two and wine-actually ended up buying the bottle. We booked but on arrival were offered seating inside or outside under the covered in area - we chose the covered area - parking is easy, there's a gentle walk to very pleasant green area in front of the restaurant - great for kids to run around if you went for a family outting. Tables spaced out and also a sitting area with a low table and couches.
We ordered a breads and dip starter (not included in the voucher) - there was a good selection of breads- 3 different dips - all very good.
All options on the main menu were available to us - although not a huge selection there was a bit of everything (seafood, pork, beef, etc.) and most had a hint of honey. Our waiter was very pleasant and service good-food arrived on time and there was an acceptable space between courses. All our dishes were of a high standard, very well presented and we ate every morsel. The side of bacon we ordered to go with our mains was enough for two and well worth the $5.
On looking over the pricing of the menu all were reasonably priced and in line with other pricing structures. We were also given a voucher which could be used in there little boutique retail outlet at the rear of the restaurant - as we did not want to purchase anything on the night or before the vouchers expiry we gave it back for someone else to be able use.
Overall we had an extremely pleasant evening and all things considered we will certainly make sure a return visit is in order.
Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.
