“Great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2013

We stayed here for two nights after just arriving in New Zealnd. It was fairly centrally located and easy to find with friendly staff. It was nice and quiet despite it's central location. The room was comfortable and clean. It was more like a hotel than a backpackers with the added bonus of a kitchen! Would highly recommend.

We stayed in Auckland for one night as a special treat to attend 'Wicked', so deliberately chose centrally located accommodation. We were a bit worried that it would be noisy out on the street, but it was actually ok as we were on the 7th floor. The room was very hot, but opening the windows helped, and they provide a fan which was great, as it provided 'white noise' as well which always helps the sleep. The shared basement kitchen is fantastically well-equipped, and is obviously monitored throughout the day for cleanliness as it was spotless. I have only not given excellent to the room purely because our one was so hot. The attention to the environment is impressive. Thoroughly recommend the City Lodge to anyone.

Room Tip: I'd tend to stay in the upper floors due to the noise factor on the street and because you have...

City Lodge is the perfect location to see a show in Auckland. Just 5 minutes walk to the Aotea Centre on Queen Street and 20 minutes walk to the Viaduct basin or a quick trip in a taxi. Thanks for your feedback about the kitchen, we clean this areas 3 times each day. We have a huge selection of kitchen equipment from rice cookers to kitchen blenders, slow cookers to cake mixers if you feel like baking a cake... We hope you enjoyed Wicked the Musical, best wishes for a great Christmas and Holiday season, Glenn Gairdner

We were three family members needing one night's accommodation in Auckland, NZ. We found City Lodge on the net and were not disappointed. It is walking distance to everything in the CBD, ultra-clean, reasonably quiet, helpful staff and every room has an ensuite with towels provided. On-site parking was a modest extra. Had we been staying longer, we would have made good use of the well-appointed kitchen and lounge. The room was small but that was OK and it included a frig, and comp tea and coffee - very good for a hostel. Anne

Although a little far from anything we wanted to do, City Lodge has lots to recommend. It was absolutely clean, safe and priced OK for a big city. The staff were super helpful, getting us a taxi when needed, and even changing the return taxi when we phoned in with changed plans. They also noticed a charger left in a wall socket and returned it to us with our stored luggage. Our twin room was large enough and well laid out, and the beds were comfortable. It was a good choice for us.

Stayed here for four nights in October. We are a group of Three 21 year old girls. Lovely rooms very clean and nice! Fresh towels every day. In an okay location for Auckland City but not much to do at all around the hotel! Was quite boring so wouldn't recommend for young people looking to go out. Wifi is an absolute rip off!! One free voucher that lasts about 10 seconds so I paid $3 for 200mb which apparently I somehow used in one night after being on for half an hour!! You should offer wifi for free as it's much more of an attraction for backpackers! Krishna was lovely and really happy to help, couldn't say the same for Tina however who shrugged off most of our questions! Overall it is a nice hotel but not for young people looking for stuff to do

Thank you for providing your feedback. While we do not provide a bar on site guests are welcome to enjoy drinks in the lounge, dining and outdoor seating area. City Lodge is located close to a large variety of night life from K Road well known for its diverse and creative culture and eclectic mix of cafes, boutique shops and nightlife to the Viaduct basin a first class residential, commercial and entertainment precinct right by the water’s edge. Our staff can advise some of the best places to go and enjoy. Thanks for the comment about Krishna, he is a great guy who really enjoys working in the hospitality industry. Kind regards Glenn Gairdner

We loved our stay in the city lodge! The room and facilities were immaculate and staff were very friendly and helpful. Beds were really comfy and nice showers too. We couldn't believe how much we got for our money with this place and were sad we couldn't stay longer. The Only down side was the noise from the main roads. Would definitely stay again!

Our original accommodation didn't go to plan, so we had to find accommodation quickly. We stumbled upon City Lodge where we were greeted by friendly staff. We found the stay comfortable and clean and the cost was cheap. I would definitely think about staying there again if I travelled to Auckland again.
