“Great value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2013

Room wasn't massive but was spotless. Large tv, fridge and really comfortable beds with luxurious linen. Really great value for money. The receptionist was professional. Free drink offered to entise you into the bar. Would highly recommend. Only downside is that it is quite far up Queen street.

Glad to read your happy comments Michael. We are proud to provide value for money. Clearly our emphasis is on neat, tidy and comfortable accommodation with best customer service. And we go extra mile in our effort to make our guests' stay enjoyable.

For other readers: Ascotia Off Queen is right on the Queen Street, but still away from noisy by lanes of down town. Aotea Square, Town Hall, Imax Theatre and Civi Theatre are all within easy stroll.

Regards
Rishi

A great hotel on a good place near bus stops. The rooms are not that big, but provide in all needs. Combined with the awesome beds, great bathroom, cleanliness of the facillity
and very friendly and helpfull staff it's the best place to stay at upper Queens.

I was really pleased with Ascotia off Queen. As others have noted, the rooms are small (though not micro-hotel small), but they are nicely decorated and have pleasant decor. There was no air-conditioning, but a free-standing heater was enough to keep the room nicely warm on cold winter nights.

The hotel is in a really good location. It's only a few minutes walk into the heart of Queen Street, or a short stroll uphill to Karangahape Road. It's also very close to the City Link bus, which runs from the Viaduct, to Britomart, along Queen Street, up to Karangahape Road. It's 50c (or free using a HOP bus card), so it's very easy to use the hotel as a base for exploring Auckland.

Two minor issues. The hot water took a really long time to come through the pipes. I even timed it and one morning it took seven minutes (!) until the freezing cold shower water finally ran hot. Secondly, many of the power points in the room didn't work. Weirdly enough, there were double power points, with the newer of the pair not working, suggesting that the building was in the process of being rewired. I'd recommend the hotel make it clear which of the power points were working.

It was a very pleasant hotel to stay at. It's a great location, a good city base, neat and tidy rooms and very economical prices. I'd happily stay there again!

Dear Robyn2000:
Thank you for your review and we are glad you enjoyed cleanliness, coziness and warmth of room. Thank you for sharing the great location of Ascotia Off Queen which is in the heart of Auckland CBD's Queen Street for exploring the city through walk to Karanghape Road, Sky City, Viaduct, Britomart or just use free Hop on and Hop off Bus.

Point noted on power points. All such points are being replaced or done away with. You will notice on your next visit. We are in the peak winter and it takes a while for hot water to travel through freezing pipes. Seven minutes is small price for sixty degree celcius hot water running endlessly later on.

We look forward to serve you again in near future.
Regards

Rishi

Stayed here for 4 nights. Signed up for the winter special, which includes breakfast and free wifi.
Cons:
Rooms were small. Would have felt crowded if there were two of us.
On-site Parking is limited

Pro:
Great value (all-up, considering room + breakfast + wifi + parking was ~ $125 /night)
Comfortable bed
Helpful staff, good service, friendly people
Room was tidy and well cleaned. Warm - didn't need heater and still had window open in mid-winter

Very clean room and really comfy bed! Room was on the smaller side, but it was exactly what you need when making a city trip. 5-10 minute walk into the heart of the city (Queen St), and only a few minutes more to the wharf to catch a ferry.

We came in late at night and the check-in process was very fast and painless. The staff were very helpful - cannot fault them!

Great value for money!

Clean room with excellent ensuite, looked like it was brand new. Just down from main Queen Street, it's in the middle of everything. Good value for money and was really easy and fast service. I'd stay there again.

I stayed here from 19/06/2013 for 20 nights.
Reached around 11:30 at night. Found Check-in to be very smooth as Staff at Reception had kept everything ready to be signed. Didn't have to waste any time during check-in.

This was the most economical Hotel I found during my travel. Nearby Hotels will charge almost double what these people charge. Near to Sky Towers, Downtown, Aotea Square, Harbour, etc are at a walking distance from this Hotel.

I stayed in Room No. 205, a Queen Room(Double Bed). Big Glass Window with a lovely view of Sky Tower and plenty of Sunlight in the morning. Heater was provided.

Never had problems finding places near CBD as Staff is well aware of it. They were well aware of nearby places. Brochures and Free Travel SIM Cards were kept at the reception. You'll get all the info about Auckland and Nearby places.
In-house Restaurant and Bar. Pretty good variety in Food Menu, decent range of liquor as well.
Staff was very friendly( Forgot Room Access Key a lot of time, and they always helped me with spare keys without wasting any time).
Hotel is well secured with Electronic Security System.
Excellent Coffee.

Room Tip: 04, 05 Rooms on Every Floor have pretty good view of Sky Towers. Plenty of Sunlight in the Morning t...
