“Easy hike to see great splendor”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2014

We were visiting from the USA and wanted to see a panaromic view of the area. So a group of us hiked up to the Waitakere Ranges and say a superb view of the area. And there is a great pic spot with a "picture frame" right there for you to stand in and become part of the scenery. Loved it!

“A must see”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2014

A must see and don't miss it if you stop by Auckland! The mountains and beach are just unbelievably beautiful! And it's just 20 mins drive away from the downtown and it yet is so different!

“Great Park”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2014

Love the place a bit of wilderness on the western edge of Auckland. After heading up the Northwestern motorway (got lost then) you come to the Ranges some fantastic walks and views out from the top of the hills. You can see the beautiful countryside that New Zealand has to offer.

“Nature at its best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2014

There are no snakes or nasties to worry about...just a great place to immerse yourself in nature. Lots of walking tracks for different levels of fitness. Used to tramp there years ago with the Auckland Tramping Club. I'm sure that they would be happy or anyone to join them on one of their walks. A nice way to enjoy nature, stay safe and meet some locals. Google Auckland Tramping Club and you will find a list of the many clubs in Auckland. Call any of them and I'm sure they would welcome you...a great local experience.

“Day trek”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2014

There are lots of walks throughout the Waitakere Ranges. Check into the Visitor Centre and pick up a free map. You can wander for hours in the bush but do make sure that someone knows where you are. It is very peaceful and generally fairly quiet with not too many hordes also walking there.
