Pro: close to viaduct. Period
Cons: 19 in ch tv, noisy with construction 6 feet away all day, poor maintenance, door handles falling off, 1 of 2 lifts broken for a week, 1 bedroom suite smallest ever seen, pokey bathroom, pokey everything. Great view of driveway, king bed not even queen sized. Smelt of smoke, explained by presence of ashtray. $30 carpark?
Would not recommend to anyone
Do yourself a favour and stay in the casino for the same price. Cheaper $20 parking, room 3 times bigger, 24 hr room service (not closed at 930pm)

I stayed at the Grand Chancellor for 8 days as part of a month long trip to the southern hemisphere.
The location is ideal, very central to all the major attractions.
The rooms were clean, and the staff were pleasant and reasonably helpful.
The restaurant / bar however, was grossly over priced on nearly all items, and was virtually empty every night.
I stayed in four different hotels whilst on this trip, and the Grand Chancellor was the only one that offered no free wi/fi of any description, not even in the lobby/reception/bar area!
Virtually every coffee shop in Auckland has free wi fi access, which we made full use of.
The staff were very keen to sell me a wi fi package with unlimited wi fi access in my room, at a cost of 20 dollars per day! Obviously, this would have added 160 dollars to the cost of my stay here, next time I will shop around for a hotel that at least has some form of free wi fi.

We booked over Easter and ended up with a one bedroom apartment on the first floor. Price was great, rooms were tidy and spacious, and the views were at near gound level. But TV was small (around 18in) and the shower over the bath was a disappointment, with a low mounted shower head and about 2ft-wide space to shower in. Water from the shower had badly affected the door and door frame.

Our biggest disappointment was checking in to the hotel at 9:30pm and looking for something to eat around 10pm. Room service ceases at 9:30pm.

Room Tip: Avoid booking rooms on levels 1 or 2

We had a mixed experience at the Hotel, the room was old but comfortable, functional and spacious, the bed was very good and it was nice and quiet.
I do not like a shower over the bath, and the bath in our room was quite deep, getting out when wet was an uneasy experience and older travellers may find it risky.
Service from staff was the main disappointment, booking in was a formal affair, none of the "your room is on the 13th floor, take the lift around the corner, use this token to scan in the lift when going to higher floors". it was just here's your key... The mini bar was not replenished during our 4 night stay, but due to the great location grocery shopping was only a block or two away. A short walk to the wharf and restaraunts as well as shopping centres is a plus.
If you want a reasonably priced and very well situated property and you are happy to "go it alone" with service, this is a great place. however if you like to have service and friendlyness find somewhere else.

Room Tip: Take a harbour view room

We stayed in the one bedroom apartment with harbour views on the 13th floor. The rooms were spotlessly clean and the views were amazing. The kitchen facilities were great and we cooked in instead of eating out. We used the swimming pool and spa which were quite good. Overall we thought it was very good value and the location was brilliant, with only a 5 minute walk to the skytower and 10 mins to the viaduct. Will definitely stay here again when we need time out from the kids and pets!!!!

This is a very central hotel for tourists using Auckland port or rail. We were able to pull our bags from the overseas shipping terminal yet also departed the city using rail to Wellington. It is in an ideal location for walking the city,Albert Park, the Auckland tower, ferry trips across the harbour, or a local bus to the museum.Staff on arrival were obliging to care for our bags as we arrived early ie about 9am,
Rooms are clean, bathrooms good & efficient elevators.

We recently spent 2 nights in this wonderful hotel, the staff were really great, the room fantastic , the views especially at night were breathtaking as our room looked out on the harbour. Central location we were able to walk everywhere we had a 3 db bed unit which was very roomy & comfortable .No problems recommending this great hotel.

Room Tip: The rooms overlooking the harbour fabulous
